PPG is a global leader in the coatings and specialty materials industry, committed to protecting and beautifying the world through innovative solutions. Established to serve a diverse range of markets including industrial, transportation, consumer products, and construction, PPG stands out for its leadership in sustainability, color technology, and product performance. Headquartered in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, PPG's operations are driven by a strong commitment to customer satisfaction, continuous improvement, and operational excellence. The company's mission is encapsulated in its core values, including being customer champions, acting with purpose and speed, striving for excellence in operations, competing to win, and fostering pride in their work and impact.
As a General Finishes Lab Technician, you will play a vital role in supporting the technical activities essential to professional engineering and scientific projects at PPG. This position is based at the Oak Creek, WI facility and reports directly to the General Finishes Team Lead. The role requires a highly skilled and experienced lab technician able to work independently or collaboratively with chemists, engineers, and project leaders. Your responsibilities will involve the planning, construction, testing, and documentation of experiments related to liquid coating products, ensuring that tests align with customer specifications and industry standards.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency in hands-on benchwork with complex equipment and possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills. You will be expected to operate with minimal supervision, managing your experiments from initial planning to execution after consulting with your supervisor. This autonomy requires you to be resourceful, detail-oriented, and proactive in seeking additional assignments and areas for improvement.
Key duties include preparing and applying liquid coatings, testing products against various specifications, observing results, and identifying potential root causes of any anomalies. You will need to adapt smoothly between projects, building upon previous experience to increase efficiency and contribute to internal presentations. Adherence to PPG's Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) guidelines and company policies is mandatory to maintain a safe and compliant workplace.
PPG offers a competitive and comprehensive benefits package including excellent medical, dental, and vision insurance, matching 401(k) and retirement savings plans, as well as paid vacation and holiday pay. The company fosters a fulfilling work environment that encourages continuous learning, respects diversity, and champions career growth opportunities. PPG also embraces the use of AI tools in its hiring process to enhance efficiency while ensuring fairness and equality.
Joining PPG as a General Finishes Lab Technician means being part of a pioneering company dedicated to innovation, sustainability, and customer success. You will contribute to projects that have a direct impact on diverse industries while working in a supportive and dynamic setting. PPG prides itself on providing equal employment opportunities irrespective of gender, race, disability, or any other protected status, committed to building a diverse and inclusive workforce. This role is an excellent opportunity for experienced technicians who are mechanically inclined, comfortable with complex lab equipment, and eager to advance their careers in a prominent global company.
