Job Description
Island Energy Services (IES) is a locally managed and headquartered company deeply rooted in Hawai'i's dynamic energy sector. Established as a leader in logistics and distribution, IES operates through a vast network comprising six terminals and an expanding portfolio of 50 retail locations spread across the islands of O'ahu, Maui, Kaua'i, Moloka'i, and Hawai'i. As the official licensee of the Texaco brand in Hawai'i, IES takes pride in its local heritage and commitment to servicing the community with reliability, innovation, and excellence. With a foundational emphasis on four core values—Kīnāʻole (doing the right thing), Aloha (respect for people), Lōkahi (teamwork), and Hoʻohana (working with purpose and intention)—the company cultivates a strong culture that influences every level of its operations and workforce. These values are not mere words but are integrated into employee performance standards and the company’s decision-making processes, underscoring every task and initiative.
IES actively fosters a Culture of Excellence, encouraging employees to embody the "4 B's"—Believe, Behave, Belong, and Become—creating a work environment where dedication, integrity, and professionalism flourish. The workforce at IES is renowned for its high level of skill, training, and passion, collectively propelling the Retail and Terminal Logistics business units to continued success and growth. Offering attractive and stable career opportunities, IES represents a promising employment landscape within Hawai'i’s competitive energy industry.
The Lab Inspector Trainee (IT-1) position at Island Energy Services is an entry-level role under the general supervision of the Lab Supervisor, providing critical Quality Control test support across all IES terminals, including Kapolei and Neighbor Islands, as well as retail locations. This role is essential for maintaining product quality and safety standards across the company's energy distribution chain. The ideal candidate is analytically minded, with a strong commitment to accuracy and detail, and is adept at multitasking within a fast-paced environment. Proficiency with Excel, Word, and the broader Microsoft Office Suite is expected, reflecting the role's data-intensive nature. While prior experience in refinery, manufacturing, or similar industries is preferred, a motivated and self-driven attitude is highly valued for success in this role.
Key responsibilities include conducting a variety of laboratory tests on fuel samples and finished products, employing both simple and advanced testing methodologies, and ensuring compliance with established quality specifications. The Lab Inspector Trainee is responsible for analyzing test results, validating data, and maintaining accurate records that meet technical and legal standards. Additionally, the role involves participating in quality control and assurance processes, managing equipment calibration and preventive maintenance, and effectively communicating and prioritizing workload with customers and team members. Safety and housekeeping are also paramount, with the incumbent required to uphold high safety standards, conduct fire and safety equipment inspections, and foster a safe working environment.
This position demands a collaborative mindset, strong ethical standards, and professional conduct, emphasizing teamwork, respect for diversity, and constructive communication. Island Energy Services offers a comprehensive pay and benefits package, including a starting hourly wage of $36.05, full medical, dental, and vision coverage from day one, paid vacation and sick leave, holidays, 401k with employer matching, life insurance, voluntary supplemental insurance options, and flexible spending accounts. The company prioritizes physical and mental well-being with clear physical demand guidelines and offers reasonable accommodations to individuals with disabilities.
Overall, the Lab Inspector Trainee role at IES is an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking to build a rewarding career in a supportive and innovative company. The role’s emphasis on continuous improvement, safety, and quality, combined with the company’s dedication to employee growth, presents a dynamic environment for professional development within Hawai'i's energy sector.
