The practice seamlessly blends various specialties to address diverse medical needs, making it a pivotal healthcare provider in the community. As a leading medical practice, Wilmington Health continuously adapts to advances in medical science and technology, prioritizing patient outcomes and personalized care.
The role available at Wilmington Health is that of a Laboratory Assistant, a position integral to supporting the medical staff and ultimately enhancing patient care quality with timely and accurate lab testing services. The Laboratory Assistant will be responsible for conducting a wide range of diagnostic tests including urinalysis, rapid strep tests, mononucleosis tests, flu screenings, RSV tests, and more. This role requires the ability to perform finger sticks, heel sticks, and venipuncture specimen collections, and analyze samples using hematology analyzers. The scope of the position also includes specimen preparation for external laboratories such as LabCorp and NHRMC, as well as managing internal lab operations with close communication with site and lab managers.
Beyond test administration and specimen processing, the Laboratory Assistant is expected to maintain lab supplies, oversee the cleanliness and organization of lab spaces, ensure proper temperature controls, and handle hazardous materials following safety protocols. The position involves utilizing laboratory information systems like Orchard LIS for order entry, result recording, and patient inquiry, as well as electronic medical record systems. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to safety, and a commitment to quality assurance through proficiency testing and control data management.
The ideal candidate should be a self-motivated individual with exceptional customer service skills, professionalism, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Responsibilities also include educating patients on specimen collection techniques and managing communication for follow-up testing when necessary. Wilmington Health values integrity, dependability, and initiative in its laboratory team, ensuring a supportive and efficient work environment dedicated to excellence in patient care and laboratory services. This position offers an opportunity to join a reputable healthcare provider with a long-standing commitment to the community's health and wellness.
