The Tequila Sommelier role at La Hacienda, one of the hotel’s distinguished dining venues, is a unique and exciting opportunity for a hospitality professional passionate about premium spirits, particularly tequila and mezcal. This position is designed to elevate the guest experience by sharing expert knowledge and delivering personalized recommendations that celebrate the rich culture and craftsmanship behind these beverages. The sommelier plays an essential role in enhancing the restaurant's revenue by increasing guest engagement, supporting large party bookings, and creating exclusive tasting experiences.

Working closely with the La Hacienda General Manager, the Tequila Sommelier will develop and manage the spirits, wine, and tequila program, ensuring the offerings remain innovative and appealing. Additionally, the role involves collaborating with marketing, public relations, and sales teams to create special events and publicity opportunities that put the spotlight on La Hacienda’s beverage excellence. The Tequila Sommelier is also a key trainer, responsible for conducting ongoing education sessions for the service team to keep everyone informed about the latest trends and knowledge in tequila and spirits. Job Requirements

  • Minimum 2-3 years experience in luxury hospitality
  • Food Handler's card and Alcohol Awareness Certification required
  • Proficiency in basic math including percentages and volume calculations
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) preferred
  • Ability to provide practical solutions and work under various circumstances
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Strong knowledge of tequila and related beverages
  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development

Job Qualifications

  • At least 2-3 years of experience at the Four or Five Diamond level
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is an asset
  • Ability to demonstrate intermediate mathematical skills
  • Strong problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to interpret various types of instructions
  • Valid Food Handler's card and Alcohol Awareness Certification
  • Extensive knowledge of tequila and Spanish spirits
  • Strong sales orientation and communication skills
  • Creativity in developing new cocktails and beverage experiences
  • Experience working with diverse clientele
  • Ability to work with both front and back of house staff

Job Duties

  • Welcome guests by offering and up-selling tequila-based cocktails and flights
  • Manage ordering, inventory, and maintenance of the tequila program
  • Conduct ongoing tequila training for the service team and new hires
  • Assist in pre-shift meetings educating staff on tequila trends and beverage program
  • Support service staff during high volume times including bar service and food running
  • Provide knowledgeable answers to guest inquiries about the menu and beverages
  • Promote and drive sales of tequila tastings, happy hour, private dining, and special events
