The role of Kitchen Team Leader is central to the smooth operation of the restaurant’s Back of the House. This position requires a strong leader who is knowledgeable about food safety, personal safety, and operational procedures. Kitchen Team Leaders are expected to be fully trained and capable of performing duties across all kitchen stations, including Fryer, Broiler, Make-up, Quarterback, and Lead Cook. This role is not only about executing the food preparation tasks but also about leading and coaching the kitchen staff to ensure they perform at their best. The Kitchen Team Leader collaborates closely with the management team to control food and labor costs, meet sales and operational targets, and uphold the highest standards of health and safety at all times. Job Requirements
- 2 years of experience in related food service position preferred
- Food Manager Certificate and/or ServSafe Manager Certificate required
- Ability to work a flexible schedule based on restaurant needs
- Ability to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 40 pounds, with the ability to lift up to 55 pounds
- Ability to stand for long periods
- Manual dexterity, auditory and visual skills
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures
Job Qualifications
- Strong leadership qualities and professionalism
- Ability to communicate effectively in English
- Basic math skills
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment
- Excellent teamwork attitude
- Experience working in a restaurant kitchen or related food service environment
- Food Manager Certificate and/or ServSafe Manager Certificate
- Experience training and coaching team members
Job Duties
- Set the standard and leads by example in all kitchen functions and responsibilities
- Provide direction and coaching to back of house team members
- Able to perform all stations in the kitchen, including preparation and cooking of all food items
- Ensure standard operational procedures are followed for consistent delivery of quality food items
- Demonstrate detailed knowledge of cleaning, maintenance, and operation of all kitchen equipment, including flat grills, charbroiler, fryer, slicer
- Comply with all established standards including personal safety, food safety, sanitation, personal hygiene, appearance, and uniform
- Set and maintain ordering pars weekly to ensure quality and availability of food products
- Assist in training and developing back of house staff
- Ensure kitchen organization, cleanliness, efficiency, and operations during opening shifts
- Assist with opening and closing of the restaurant by following checklists
- Write and follow weekly planner
- Participate in weekly management meetings to share observations and thoughts regarding goals
- Optimize profits by controlling food and labor costs
