Job Description

The hiring establishment is a large private correctional food service provider based in Texas, known for its reliable and high-quality food service operations within institutional settings. This provider specializes in managing food service across various correctional facilities, ensuring that meals are prepared and served following stringent guidelines for safety, hygiene, and nutrition. Their team is committed to maintaining high standards and providing continuous training and supervision to ensure smooth operations.

This particular opportunity is for a Kitchen Supervisor/Cook role located at the Lubbock County Jail in Lubbock, TX. This position is essential to the successful operation of the food service department within the correctional facility. The Kitchen Supervisor/Cook will oversee and provide hands-on training to between 5 to 12 Inmate Trustees, all of whom are non-violent offenders. The role involves direct supervision of inmate labor in various food service operations including the operation of kitchen equipment, preparing food by following recipes accurately, and ensuring that food production, preparation, and the presentation of food trays meet high standards. Additionally, the supervisor will oversee the serving of meals to inmates.

A key focus within this role is maintaining and emphasizing high sanitation standards throughout all food service processes. Because this position involves managing inmate labor, strong leadership, clear communication, and active training skills are required to ensure compliance with safety and sanitation protocols. The job demands physical stamina, as employees will be required to stand for approximately 80 percent of the working time.

The position offers a starting wage of $15.50 per hour and includes a comprehensive benefits package. Employees will have access to medical, dental, and vision insurance options. Additional benefits include eligibility for a 401k retirement plan, paid personal and sick leave, paid holidays after six months of employment, and paid vacation after completing one year. The company supports its workforce by paying for all required training, enhancing employees’ skills and certifications without financial burden.

Ideal candidates will have institutional or commercial food service experience, with correctional food service experience viewed as a strong advantage. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States, have reliable transportation, and possess English proficiency in both speaking and reading. A prerequisite for employment includes passing an extensive background check, where felonies serve as an automatic disqualification. Veterans will receive special consideration during the hiring process, reflecting the company's commitment to valuing diverse professional backgrounds.

Overall, this role represents a rewarding opportunity for individuals who possess experience in food service supervision and wish to contribute meaningfully within a correctional environment.
