Job Description
The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury is a government body responsible for the administration and oversight of various public services within Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana. Among its many departments is the Juvenile Detention Center, which provides secure detention and rehabilitation services for youth. The Food Services Division within the Detention Center plays a critical role in ensuring that all residents and staff receive nutritious, safe, and timely meals. This particular position is part of the Food Services Series and represents the third level in this career path, emphasizing leadership and supervisory capabilities over the kitchen operations. The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury is committed to upholding high standards of health, safety, and sanitation while fostering a professional work environment that complies with state regulations and departmental policies.
This job is designed for a skilled and experienced food services supervisor who will oversee the procurement, preparation, and distribution of meals and snacks to individuals and groups within the Juvenile Detention Center. The supervisor will take on a multi-faceted role involving both administrative and hands-on responsibilities that ensure the smooth operation of the kitchen and compliance with all relevant guidelines. Key duties include collaborating with management to align kitchen processes with administrative directives, maintaining detailed records of food inventories especially those received through U.S.D.A. donations, and managing the purchasing of food and supplies.
The role also requires developing and enforcing work schedules, providing clear written instructions and procedures for all kitchen staff, and supervising the preparation and serving of food to meet expected standards of quality and safety. Furthermore, the supervisor will conduct performance appraisals for kitchen employees, handle employee relations including interviewing and addressing grievances, and maintain meticulous records concerning daily operations, including timekeeping and reporting. An essential aspect of the job is to ensure strict adherence to policy manuals, equal employment laws, and drug-free workplace standards as mandated by Calcasieu Parish Police Jury.
A strong focus is placed on maintaining high standards of health, sanitation, and safety. This includes overseeing the cleanliness and proper sanitation of all kitchenware, equipment, and facilities, and ensuring that these standards comply with the Louisiana Department of Public Health regulations. The supervisor may also participate in in-service training programs as a certified member of the American School Food Service Association, enhancing their knowledge and expertise in school food service management.
The position demands physical stamina and the ability to adapt to a work environment where lifting, moving objects, standing, walking, and other physical activities are common. Accommodations may be available for individuals with disabilities. The work environment includes occasional exposure to mechanical parts, chemicals, and noise, necessitating safety awareness and the use of protective measures. This supervisory role is essential for the effective functioning of the Juvenile Detention Center's kitchen, directly influencing the health and wellbeing of detained youth through proper meal service. The job may require additional duties as assigned, reflecting the dynamic nature of operations within the detention center.
