Job Description

The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury Human Services Department is actively seeking a reliable and dedicated Food Services Manager to join their Summer Food Service Program team. Located in LA, this temporary position offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $22.49 to $31.80. The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury is a governmental entity committed to enhancing the community's quality of life through diverse service programs, including child nutrition initiatives. Their Summer Food Service Program is designed to provide nutritious meals and snacks to children during the summer months when school is not in session, ensuring food security and promoting healthy eating habits throughout the community.

This role is the third level in the Food Services Series and involves both supervisory and operational responsibilities focused on the procurement, preparation, and delivery of meals and snacks. The Food Services Manager will supervise cooks and other kitchen personnel at the Juvenile Detention Center kitchen, ensuring all operations comply with health and safety regulations as well as administrative directives. This position requires a hands-on approach to culinary management, encompassing inventory control, menu planning, food preparation, and maintaining accuracy in record-keeping. The manager will also oversee the receiving and storage of food and supplies, ensure proper sanitation protocols are followed, and maintain equipment and kitchen facilities in excellent condition.

In this role, the Food Services Manager collaborates closely with management to align kitchen operations with program goals and mandates, including adherence to USDA guidelines and Louisiana Department of Public Health regulations. The position demands exceptional organizational skills to prepare work schedules, manage inventory, and maintain daily and monthly records accurately. As the face of the kitchen team, the Food Services Manager also plays a vital role in training and guiding kitchen staff, enforcing standards of conduct, and ensuring a safe, efficient, and welcoming kitchen environment.

Applicants should be prepared to engage in various kitchen-related tasks, including supervising cooks, preparing menus using standardized recipes and USDA buying guides, and maintaining sanitation standards throughout the facility. The role emphasizes adherence to policies such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Act and the Drug-Free Workplace Policy, reflecting the organization's commitment to ethical and lawful operations. The Food Services Manager must also be proactive in participating in ongoing training opportunities and adhering to confidentiality guidelines concerning departmental information.

This is an opportunity for candidates with a passion for food service management and community health to make a meaningful impact while advancing their career in a government agency. The temporary status offers flexibility, and the compensation reflects the importance of the role in sustaining vital food service programs. Though not eligible for the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury benefit package, this position provides valuable professional experiences within a supportive organizational structure dedicated to public service and youth welfare.
