Job Requirements
- Ability to stand bend squat climb kneel and twist intermittently or continuously
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to work in extreme heat environments
- Ability to see and make visual inspections and read interpret and follow recipes
- Ability to smell and taste to determine freshness and proper seasoning
- Ability to perform various repetitive motion tasks
- Able to operate a motor vehicle
Job Qualifications
- Must have high school diploma or GED equivalent
- Graduate of an accredited food service program
- Minimum of 1-year experience in institutional cooking with management responsibilities
- Valid California driver’s license
- Ability to show proof of insurance
- Ability to pass a criminal background check and driving record check
Job Duties
- Schedule kitchen workload to allow for timely meal preparation, serving and clean-up
- Train and supervise kitchen personnel including beneficiaries on proper cooking techniques
- Train and supervise kitchen personnel on food safety, work safety and kitchen sanitation
- Assure kitchen sanitation standards are maintained
- Maintain kitchen equipment in good working condition and schedule repairs
- Perform bi-weekly inventory and rotate stock to ensure freshness
- Order food consistent with nutritional considerations and budget restrictions
- Develop and maintain vendor relations with multiple suppliers including the local Food Bank
- Manage petty cash bank used for weekly food purchases and follow accounting procedures
- Collaborate with Center Administrator for menu planning and special events
- Assist with cooking and service as needed
- Consult with professional staff concerning beneficiary services
- Inform Resident Manager or Center Administrator of manpower needs
- Enforce personnel policies and directives such as smoking regulations and lunch breaks
- Ensure safety measures comply with TSA Policy and government regulations
- Maintain confidentiality as required
- Obtain written approval for overtime from Center Administrator
- Perform other duties as assigned by Administrator or designate
