Job Description

The Salvation Army (TSA) Adult Rehabilitation Center (ARC) is a dedicated no-fee program designed to support men and women on their journey to complete a rehabilitation program successfully. As an enthusiastic and hardworking Kitchen Supervisor at The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center, you will hold a critical position that ensures the smooth operation of the kitchen while upholding high standards of food safety, nutrition, and sanitation. This full-time role offers a pay rate of $18.50 per hour with a schedule averaging 37.5 hours per week. Your responsibilities will encompass scheduling kitchen workloads to meet timely meal preparation and service, training and supervising kitchen personnel including beneficiaries, and maintaining kitchen equipment in excellent condition. You will oversee monthly inventory management, food ordering within budget constraints, and foster relationships with vendors such as local food banks. Additionally, you will manage petty cash used for weekly food purchases ensuring compliance with accounting procedures. Collaboration with management is essential for menu planning and execution of special event meals. You will also be responsible for enforcing personnel policies, safety standards according to TSA policies and government regulations, and ensuring confidentiality as required.

The role requires strong leadership skills to guide kitchen staff and beneficiaries effectively, ensuring the maintenance of high-quality food service while supporting the rehabilitation mission of the center. Flexibility in work hours is important as ARCs operate seven days a week, with scheduling including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed to guarantee adequate coverage. Job Requirements

  • Must have high school diploma or GED equivalent
  • graduate of an accredited food service program
  • minimum of 1-year experience in institutional cooking with management responsibilities
  • must hold valid California driver’s license and be able to show proof of insurance
  • must be able to pass a criminal background check and driving record
  • ability to stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist intermittently or continuously
  • ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • ability to work in an environment of extreme heat
  • ability to see and make visual inspections and read, interpret and follow recipes
  • ability to smell and taste to determine freshness and proper seasoning
  • ability to perform various repetitive motion tasks
  • able to operate a motor vehicle

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Schedule kitchen workload to allow for timely meal preparation, serving and clean-up
  • train and supervise kitchen personnel including beneficiaries on proper cooking techniques
  • train and supervise kitchen personnel on food safety, work safety and kitchen sanitation
  • assure that proper kitchen sanitation standards are maintained
  • assure that kitchen equipment is maintained in good working condition, scheduling preventative maintenance and emergency repairs
  • perform bi-weekly inventory of all unused items and rotate stock to ensure freshness
  • order food consistent with nutritional considerations and within budget restrictions
  • develop and maintain vendor relations with multiple suppliers including local Food Bank
  • manage petty cash bank used for weekly food purchases and follow approved accounting procedures
  • work with Center Administrator for menu planning and special events
  • assist with cooking and service as needed
  • consult with professional staff concerning beneficiary services
  • keep Resident Manager and/or Center Administrator informed as to manpower needs
  • ensure established personnel policies and directives are followed and take disciplinary measures when necessary
  • assure that safety measures are established and maintained according to TSA policy and government regulations
  • maintain confidentiality as required for program operation
  • obtain written approval for any overtime from Center Administrator
  • perform other duties as assigned by Administrator or designate
