The Kitchen Manager role at Beth Israel Lahey Health Behavioral Services is a full-time, day-shift position integral to the Food and Dietary Services category. The Kitchen Manager is responsible for ensuring the overall smooth operation of the kitchen and dining areas, overseeing the flow, functionality, cleanliness, and safety in compliance with local health board regulations, OSHA standards, and LHBS policies.

In this role, the Kitchen Manager plans meal preparation and cooking schedules to meet service times while ensuring nutritional quality. Responsibilities include ordering food inventory from contracted vendors within budgetary constraints, planning balanced weekly menus, and preparing meals and snacks for regular and special occasions. The Kitchen Manager is accountable for food quality inspection, presentation, maintaining kitchen supplies, minimizing food waste, and enforcing cleanliness and sanitation practices. Additionally, this position involves supervision of kitchen staff, coordination with program directors and food distributors, and maintaining accurate refrigerator temperature logs.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of three years relevant work experience

  • Interest and willingness to work in a multicultural setting

Job Duties

  • Order food inventory from contracted vendors while remaining within allotted weekly budget
  • Plan weekly menu of well-balanced, nutritional meals
  • Prepare, cook and transport meals and snacks ensuring proper taste and temperature
  • Prepare meals for special occasions and holidays
  • Inspect food prior to serving for proper quality and quantity
  • Ensure proper food presentation
  • Order and maintain kitchen supplies in collaboration with program directors
  • Take necessary measures to avoid food waste
  • Maintain a clean kitchen and dining area adhering to cleanliness and sanitation guidelines
  • Maintain and ensure refrigerator temperature logs
  • Assign daily duties to cooks and kitchen helpers
  • Participate in regular supervision meetings with direct supervisor
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationship with food distributors
  • Maintain cleanliness of dining area
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned
