Job Description

The Salvation Army is a global charitable organization dedicated to meeting human needs through various services, including food assistance, shelter, disaster relief, and community support programs. Known for its commitment to serving vulnerable populations, The Salvation Army operates numerous facilities such as community centers, shelters, and kitchens to provide nutritious meals and support to those in need. As a well-established nonprofit, the organization emphasizes a mission-driven work environment that values compassion, teamwork, and respect for diversity. With a focus on both immediate relief and long-term solutions, The Salvation Army remains a trusted entity in the humanitarian sector.

We are currently seeking an experienced Kitchen Supervisor to join our team. This full-time position is responsible for planning, coordinating, supervising, and evaluating the day-to-day operations of the kitchen. The Kitchen Supervisor acts as a lead worker for kitchen staff by instructing and actively participating in the preparation, cooking, and presentation of nutritious meals and snacks. These meals must adhere to established guidelines and schedules to ensure all patrons receive safe, wholesome, and visually appealing food. In addition to overseeing meal preparation, this role involves supervising and participating in the cleaning of kitchen facilities, equipment, and appliances, guaranteeing that all health standards and safety protocols are strictly followed.

Managing budgets for food and kitchen supplies is a key aspect of this role, requiring attention to detail and financial acumen to ensure cost-effectiveness and adherence to guidelines. The position demands maintaining a clean and sanitary kitchen and dining environment, ensuring all kitchen personnel adhere to personal hygiene standards and safe food handling practices.

Working in a kitchen environment involves dealing with physical demands such as standing, walking, kneeling, and occasionally lifting moderately heavy materials and supplies (25-50 lbs). Candidates should be prepared for some physical discomforts related to hot ovens and cold storage areas. The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent and at least three years of experience planning, purchasing, and cooking meals for large groups, including supervisory experience. A valid state driver’s license is required.

This role presents a meaningful opportunity to contribute to a respected organization that makes a tangible difference in the community.
