Job Description

The Salvation Army (TSA) is a globally recognized charitable organization dedicated to providing aid and support to those in need. With its roots deeply embedded in Christian evangelical values, TSA operates numerous programs aimed at meeting human needs without discrimination. Among its many services, the Adult Rehabilitation Center (ARC) stands out as a no-fee rehabilitation initiative designed to help men and women overcome challenges and rebuild their lives through comprehensive recovery programs. Located in San Jose, California, this center embodies TSA's mission of "Doing the Most Good" by offering transformative support in a structured and caring environment.

The Adult Rehabilitation Center in San Jose is seeking a dedicated Kitchen Supervisor to lead its kitchen operations. This role is not just about culinary management; it is pivotal in ensuring the nutritional well-being and safety of our residents as they progress through their rehabilitation journey. The Kitchen Supervisor will oversee all aspects of kitchen workload, from planning and meal preparation to sanitation and inventory management. With a competitive pay rate of $21.00 per hour, this full-time position requires a leader who can balance operational efficiency with compassionate supervision.

In this role, the Kitchen Supervisor will manage kitchen personnel, including the beneficiaries participating in the program, by providing training on proper cooking techniques, food safety, and workplace sanitation. Ensuring that meals are prepared timely and meet nutritional standards within budgetary constraints is fundamental. Additionally, this position demands ongoing oversight of kitchen equipment maintenance and regular inventory assessments to ensure freshness and readiness of supplies.

The Supervisor will also maintain positive vendor relations, including coordination with local food banks, and administer petty cash for weekly food purchases in line with established accounting procedures. Collaboration with the Center Administrator is essential for menu planning, especially for special events. Additionally, the Kitchen Supervisor is expected to help with cooking and service when necessary and liaise with professional staff regarding beneficiary needs.

Safety and policy adherence are critical components of this role. The Kitchen Supervisor must ensure compliance with TSA policies, government safety regulations, and personnel guidelines, including disciplinary measures when needed. The ability to maintain confidentiality and handle overtime with appropriate approvals is also required. This role calls for a proactive individual with a strong work ethic and leadership skills, committed to supporting TSA’s mission and contributing to the success of the rehabilitation center.
