Job Description
The Westin San Diego Gaslamp Quarter is a premier hotel located in the vibrant and bustling heart of San Diego, California. Known for its exceptional hospitality and commitment to guest wellness, The Westin is part of Marriott International, a global leader in the hospitality industry. Marriott International is renowned for fostering inclusive work environments, promoting diversity, and encouraging employees to bring their unique talents and experiences to the table. The Westin brand specifically emphasizes wellbeing, aiming to empower guests and employees alike to be the best versions of themselves through unique wellness programs and supportive workplace practices. This full-time non-management position offers a competitive hourly rate of $30.50, with a schedule that ensures consistent engagement in delivering exceptional food and beverage service.
The role of Food and Beverage Supervisor at The Westin San Diego Gaslamp Quarter is a dynamic and vital position within the hotel’s culinary operations. The supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the activities of cooks and kitchen staff to ensure that food preparation, presentation, and service meet the highest standards of quality and efficiency. This includes determining the presentation and appropriate portion sizes of the dishes served, designing decorative food displays, and controlling the quantity of food prepared to reduce waste. The supervisor also communicates with food and beverage service staff regarding rejected items and special menu offerings, ensuring meal preparation aligns with both customer expectations and company policies.
Additional crucial responsibilities include assisting cooks and kitchen personnel with various tasks, providing them with necessary supplies, and monitoring kitchen inventory to maintain seamless operations. The supervisor maintains comprehensive kitchen records to comply with food safety programs and standards, ensuring all safety protocols are diligently followed. Quality assurance is a key part of the role, requiring the supervisor to notify management promptly if any food products do not meet the required specifications.
The supervisor also plays a significant role in human resource functions within the kitchen team, assisting management with hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating, coaching, disciplining, motivating, and mentoring employees. Adhering strictly to all company safety policies, procedures, and regulations, the supervisor must report any accidents, injuries, or unsafe working conditions while also conducting training sessions and obtaining necessary safety certifications.
Interpersonal skills are essential as the supervisor fosters positive working relationships among team members, supports collective achievement of goals, and addresses employee concerns empathetically and professionally. The role requires individuals to maintain a clean, professional appearance and uphold the confidentiality and security of company information and assets. Physically, the position demands standing, walking, bending, stretching, and the ability to lift and move objects up to 25 pounds, demonstrating a need for stamina and fitness.
This role is ideal for someone with a background in food service or culinary operations who is passionate about leading a team and ensuring exceptional food quality and service. The Westin’s commitment to wellbeing and its supportive team environment make it an excellent workplace for those looking to thrive in the hospitality industry while contributing to a positive guest experience and a healthy, vibrant workplace culture. Joining The Westin means becoming part of an inspiring brand that values personal and professional growth and the wellbeing of its employees and guests alike.
