Nestled in the heart of San Diego's historic Gaslamp Quarter, this upscale hotel offers guests a tranquil yet invigorating environment, blending modern comfort with stylish design. At Westin, the goal is to provide a unique and rejuvenating experience to every visitor, ensuring they leave feeling refreshed and ready to take on the world. The establishment prides itself on its inclusive culture, professional work environment, and dedication to employee well-being and development. With a focus on empowerment, the Westin encourages its staff to cultivate their own well-being practices which enhances their overall work performance and guest interaction.
The role being offered is a full-time, non-management Food and Beverage position, specifically designed for individuals passionate about culinary arts and hospitality. The position comes with an hourly pay rate of $30.50 and is based at the Westin San Diego Gaslamp Quarter. This position primarily involves supervising and coordinating the activities of the kitchen staff, ensuring that food presentation, portion sizes, and garnishing align with the hotel’s high standards. The person in this role will also be responsible for monitoring the quality and quantity of food prepared, managing kitchen stock levels, and maintaining essential food safety logs. Interaction with Food & Beverage service staff is crucial to communicate menu specials and unavailable items, helping to manage guest expectations efficiently.
Additionally, this role demands active participation in the hiring, training, evaluation, and motivation of kitchen staff, along with ensuring compliance with safety procedures and company policies. The job requires physical stamina as it involves prolonged periods of standing, walking, lifting objects up to 25 pounds, and performing routine duties within a dynamic kitchen environment. Candidates are expected to uphold professional standards related to appearance and confidentiality. Importantly, the Westin places significant emphasis on teamwork and effective communication, aiming to foster a positive work culture that aligns with the brand's mission of wellness and superior guest services.
Ideal candidates will have between four to six years of related work experience and at least two years in supervisory roles. Those with technical or vocational education backgrounds are preferred, though no specific licenses or certifications are required. The Westin San Diego offers a supportive employment setting that values diversity and inclusiveness, and it is committed to equal employment opportunities regardless of background or disability status. Joining Westin means becoming part of a global team that values passion, optimism, and adventure, providing an environment where employees can truly thrive and grow professionally while delivering exceptional hospitality experiences to guests.
