The role of Kitchen Steward (Union) is pivotal in supporting the efficient operation of OVG’s kitchen and restaurant facilities. This position ensures the highest standards of cleanliness and sanitation, assisting with dishwashing, equipment maintenance, silverware polishing, waste disposal, and general upkeep of kitchen work areas. The Kitchen Steward also contributes to food preparation efforts for various events, helping to maintain smooth and safe kitchen operations in fast-paced, event-driven environments. This hourly position pays between $18.05 and $22.56 depending on the collective bargaining agreement and includes benefits as outlined by the union agreement. It requires strong attendance and availability for scheduled events, with flexibility to work evenings, holidays, overnights, and weekends as necessary. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous kitchen steward or similar experience preferred
- Ability to work a variable schedule including evenings, holidays, overnights, and weekends
- Capability to lift 25 pounds
- Availability to work scheduled events
- Valid SNHD food handling card or ability to obtain
- Basic communication skills
Job Qualifications
- Ability to work in a team-oriented, fast-paced, event-driven environment
- Working knowledge of applicable sanitation requirements
- Proven ability to read and understand directions
- Ability to adapt to production requirements
- Ability to work a variable schedule including evenings, holidays, overnights, and weekends
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to obtain and/or possess a valid SNHD food handling card

Job Duties
- Assist in inventory management, including restocking supplies
- Dispose of waste according to waste management procedures
- Clean pots, pans, and maintain kitchen and stewarding areas
- Follow and maintain knowledge of food safety and hygiene regulations
- Clean kitchen equipment and adhere to HACCP procedures
- Scrape, rinse, and wash dishes by hand or via dishwashing equipment ensuring cleanliness
- Polish silverware using appropriate machines and manual methods
- Ensure compliance with safety and sanitation standards
- Maintain temperatures and chemical levels as outlined by standards
- Keep dish area orderly and safe
- Sweep and mop kitchen floors
- Wash worktables, walls, refrigerators, meat blocks, and other food preparation surfaces
- Remove trash and clean garbage cans
- Transfer supplies and equipment between storage and work areas
- Assist with loading and unloading supplies
- Perform other duties as assigned
