The Steward Supervisor role at JW Marriott Miami is a vital position responsible for overseeing the stewarding team to maintain the cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of all kitchen and back-of-house areas. This full-time, hourly, non-management on-site role is designed for individuals who are passionate about supporting culinary operations while ensuring food safety and sanitation standards are met at the highest level. The Steward Supervisor leads by example, training, motivating, and managing the stewarding team to deliver efficient, compliant operations that meet the hotel’s exacting standards. This position works closely with culinary and banquet teams, coordinating supplies and assisting when needed to ensure smooth service delivery. As a key member of the back-of-house management structure, the Steward Supervisor also plays an essential role in equipment maintenance oversight, safety protocol enforcement, and continuous performance improvement of the team. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • previous experience in a stewarding or similar kitchen environment
  • knowledge of sanitation and food safety regulations
  • ability to stand and perform physical tasks for extended periods
  • ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays
  • strong attention to detail
  • good interpersonal and communication skills
  • ability to lead and motivate a team
  • reliable and punctual
  • ability to follow safety protocols and handle chemicals safely

Job Qualifications

  • Previous experience in stewarding or kitchen sanitation roles
  • leadership or supervisory experience preferred
  • understanding of food safety and sanitation standards
  • ability to manage and motivate a team
  • good communication and organizational skills
  • basic computer literacy for scheduling and reporting
  • high school diploma or equivalent

Job Duties

  • Supervise and support stewarding team members to ensure efficient cleaning, sanitation, and organization of kitchen and service areas
  • monitor and maintain proper dishwashing operations, including water temperature, chemical levels, and equipment functionality
  • ensure all kitchen tools, equipment, and dishware are cleaned, sanitized, and stored according to health and safety standards
  • coordinate with culinary and banquet teams to support service needs, including transporting and stocking supplies and assisting with plate-ups
  • maintain cleanliness of dish rooms, storage areas, loading docks, and waste disposal areas in compliance with sanitation standards
  • enforce food safety, sanitation, and hazardous material handling procedures in accordance with company and regulatory guidelines
  • train, coach, and motivate team members, ensuring adherence to company standards and continuous performance improvement
  • assist management with scheduling, task delegation, and monitoring team performance to ensure operational efficiency
  • conduct routine inspections to identify maintenance needs, safety hazards, or sanitation issues and report accordingly
  • promote a safe work environment by ensuring proper use of equipment, PPE, and adherence to safety protocols
