Job Description
This job opportunity is with a dynamic organization focused on culinary education and meal production, geared towards supporting students by providing hands-on training in culinary arts. The establishment is dedicated to preparing and delivering nutritious meals daily, ensuring that students gain valuable culinary skills through a practical learning environment. As a team-oriented full-time position, this role is integral to the production and packaging of meals which include both prepared meals and program-specific meals. The organization emphasizes a collaborative approach where coordination with the lead production chef is critical to maintain high standards of meal quality and timely delivery.
The role of the Culinary Arts Production Assistant is designed not only to support daily meal production operations but also to serve as a mentor and instructor for students enrolled in the culinary training program. This position requires the candidate to follow production plans meticulously to ensure efficient meal preparation, cooking, and packaging processes are executed according to established timelines. Responsibilities include ensuring proper food storage, maintaining sanitation and safety standards in the kitchen, and assisting with inventory management and ordering under the direction of supervisors.
An important aspect of this role is instructional leadership—guiding students through culinary techniques, ensuring curriculum adherence, and promoting kitchen safety. The assistant supervises students during hands-on preparation, actively manages instructional time to complete the curriculum within a structured nine-week session, and fosters a professional and positive learning environment consistent with the organization’s core values. Additional duties involve equipment maintenance, addressing issues promptly, and maintaining the cleanliness and safety of kitchen workstations.
The role also extends to operational tasks such as supporting menu execution, facilitating food store utilization, and delivering meals to program locations such as Kids Cafe. Interaction and communication with team members and students are emphasized to promote a cohesive and supportive team culture. This position is ideal for individuals passionate about culinary arts and education, who are eager to contribute to meaningful student development while engaging in a fast-paced food production setting.
This full-time employment position offers a competitive environment with opportunities to develop leadership and culinary skills further, while working within a supportive educational framework. Candidates with prior commercial or institutional kitchen experience, supported by relevant certifications such as ServSafe Food Protection Manager certification, will find this an enriching career path. The position demands strong organizational and communication skills, flexibility with working hours including evenings or special events, and a genuine commitment to fostering student learning and well-being through excellent meal production and instructional practices.
