Job Description

Byron Health Center is a reputable healthcare establishment dedicated to providing exceptional long-term care and rehabilitation services to its residents. Located within a vibrant community, Byron Health Center strives to create a safe, supportive, and hygienic environment where residents receive comprehensive care tailored to their individual needs. The center emphasizes maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety, ensuring that all health regulations and protocols are meticulously followed. With a team of committed professionals, the center fosters a collaborative workplace culture, aiming to optimize resident well-being and satisfaction through attentive care and quality service.

The role of the Kitchen Aide at Byron Health Center is critical in supporting the overall food service operations while upholding stringent food safety and sanitation standards. This position involves a diverse range of responsibilities that ensure the kitchen remains a clean, organized, and efficient environment. The Kitchen Aide will be responsible for regularly cleaning and sanitizing kitchen equipment, utensils, dishes, and work surfaces to prevent cross-contamination and maintain compliance with health guidelines. Proper storage of clean dishes and equipment is crucial for maintaining an orderly workspace accessible to kitchen staff.

Beyond cleaning duties, the Kitchen Aide assists with basic food preparation such as peeling, chopping, and portioning ingredients, and may prepare simple dishes or garnishes under supervision. Implementation and maintenance of cleaning and maintenance schedules will also be part of daily tasks. This contributes to the upkeep of equipment and storage areas, helping to guarantee that the kitchen operates smoothly and safely.

Additionally, the role requires managing kitchen waste properly, including separating recyclables and ensuring trash bins are cleaned regularly to avoid odors and pests. The aide is expected to assist in serving meals and maintaining cleanliness in serving areas when necessary, thereby supporting the broader nutritional and comfort needs of the residents.

Safety is paramount in this role, with responsibilities extending to following safety protocols, wearing personal protective equipment, and handling chemicals safely. The Kitchen Aide must also promptly clean spills and mark wet floors to prevent accidents. Effective communication with kitchen staff and other team members is essential for coordinating tasks and supporting overall kitchen functionality.

Personal hygiene and professionalism are held to high standards, with requirements for proper handwashing, grooming, and clean uniforms while on duty. Compliance with local, state, and federal health and sanitation regulations is mandatory, alongside participation in departmental meetings and professional development programs to continuously enhance service quality.

Working conditions include intermittent movement across all food service areas, working on-site at the Byron Health Center, and being in contact with residents, staff, visitors, and governmental agencies. The position may require work beyond regular hours, including weekends and holidays. Physical demands involve managing potential risks such as falls, burns, and exposure to various substances, as well as maintaining mental and emotional resilience. The successful candidate must be able to lift, push, pull, or carry weights up to 50 pounds and assist in emergency resident evacuations if necessary.

Overall, this career opportunity at Byron Health Center is ideal for individuals seeking a meaningful role in food service with a focus on health and safety within a healthcare environment. Employment at the center offers a chance to contribute directly to the quality of life of elderly and disabled residents, supported by rigorous training and a dedicated team environment.
