Job Description

The Food Services Department of the Cartwright School District is seeking a dedicated and motivated Receiving Kitchen Manager Trainee to join their team. The Cartwright School District is committed to providing high-quality food service operations in an educational setting, ensuring that students, staff, and faculty receive nutritious, safe, and well-prepared meals. This department plays a critical role in maintaining sanitary conditions, managing inventory, and complying with state and federal safety regulations across multiple food service sites, such as schools within the district. Established as a 10-month classified position, this role immediately becomes part of a well-structured team focused on fostering a safe and efficient kitchen environment. The compensation for this role is set in accordance with guidelines approved by the district's governing board, offering an opportunity for a career pathway in food service management within a school district environment.

The role of Receiving Kitchen Manager Trainee is an entry-level management position that serves as a preparatory stage for a supervisory role in food services. Trainees work closely with experienced kitchen managers and other food service personnel, assisting and learning to monitor day-to-day food operations at assigned school sites. The responsibilities encompass a variety of administrative and hands-on activities: trainees assist with training lower-level employees on equipment operations, ensure food safety by monitoring cooking and storage environments, manage and maintain inventory control, participate in meal preparation, serve food, and handle sales of meal tickets. This role demands a high degree of operational independence, strong organizational skills, and a thorough understanding of federal and state food safety regulations. Trainees will also be accountable for preparing and maintaining various reports related to food service activities, thus sharpening their administrative and record-keeping capabilities. This position not only prepares individuals for advancement as Receiving Kitchen Managers but also contributes significantly to maintaining a hygienic and efficient food service operation that benefits the entire school district community. The trainee status means the individual will receive continuous guidance and development to build skills in inventory control, equipment maintenance, food preparation, hygiene, safety standards, and customer service within the school food service setting. Given the physical demands of the role, the trainee should be prepared for moderate physical activity associated with kitchen work, including lifting, standing, and repetitive motions, while adhering to safe workplace practices. Applicants who possess a high school diploma or GED, hold relevant food safety certifications, and demonstrate a commitment to maintaining health and sanitation standards will find this role both rewarding and challenging as they build their career in the vibrant environment of school food services.
