Job Description

World Compass Academy is a charter school that operates under the District Charter School model, providing a specialized and community-focused educational environment. As part of the network of charter schools within the district, World Compass Academy emphasizes innovative approaches to education and community engagement. With a dedicated focus on serving its students' diverse needs, the academy also highlights the importance of nutrition and health as a critical component of student well-being and academic success. Within this dynamic educational setting, the school seeks to maintain high standards in food service, ensuring that all students have access to nutritious, safe, and appealing meals during their school day.

The position of Kitchen Manager at World Compass Academy is pivotal in managing the complete kitchen operations within the school's food service department. This role is responsible for overseeing food preparation and service, managing kitchen staff, and ensuring compliance with all health and safety regulations. The Kitchen Manager works within charter schools that have limited kitchen equipment, which requires resourcefulness and effective management skills. This role is essential in promoting positive community relations, consistent quality standards, and efficient daily meal production. The Kitchen Manager will be working a regular full-time schedule of 40 hours per week over 172 workdays annually. The position offers an hourly pay range starting from $21.17 to a maximum of $26.91, with a full salary scale up to $32.65 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The Kitchen Manager's responsibilities extend beyond daily operations, including the training and development of up to 4 kitchen assistants, ensuring all team members receive safety and HACCP food handling training. The position demands strong leadership skills and the ability to manage employee performance and resolve conflicts with discretion and professionalism. The role also involves maintaining financial records related to kitchen activities, including deposits, payroll approval, and inventory management to meet profit and loss goals. Compliance with school nutrition program regulations, including those from the Colorado Department of Education, is a critical function of this position. The successful candidate will engage actively with the surrounding school community, including staff, students, and parents, fostering an inviting and service-oriented kitchen environment.

Physical requirements of the position include frequent standing, reaching, lifting items up to 40 pounds, bending, kneeling, stooping, and other motions necessary for kitchen activities. The role requires the ability to perform repetitive motions such as chopping and packaging, as well as operating kitchen equipment safely. This position requires ServSafe Manager certification within six months of hire to ensure food safety standards are upheld consistently. The Kitchen Manager must demonstrate strong organizational, communication, and time management skills, along with a positive and cooperative attitude. Fluency in English, both verbal and written, is necessary to interpret instructions and maintain effective communication. Overall, this position offers a vibrant, challenging, and rewarding opportunity for an experienced kitchen professional committed to supporting student health and the broader educational mission at World Compass Academy.
