Job Description
The Nutrition Group is a reputable full-service food and facilities management company established in 1975. With a comprehensive portfolio of support services encompassing K-12 meal services, commissary, custodial and maintenance management, business and industry, and consulting, the company has carved out a significant presence in the foodservice sector across multiple states including Florida, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, South Carolina, and Virginia. The Nutrition Group prides itself on being a people-oriented organization, fostering long-term relationships with clients, customers, employees, and vendors alike. This commitment to quality and partnership has been integral to the company’s continued growth and success for nearly five decades.
The available position is for a Kitchen Manager operating within a school food service environment, primarily focused on K-12 cafeteria operations. This is a daytime role scheduled Monday through Friday, with no evening, weekend, or holiday shifts. Employees enjoy paid time off (PTO) and 401(k) retirement benefits, reflecting the company’s dedication to supporting its workforce. The Kitchen Manager will be responsible for overseeing food production on a large scale, ensuring compliance with key federal nutrition programs such as the National School Breakfast Program and the National School Lunch Program. This position demands strong leadership and management of cafeteria staff, fostering a culture of efficiency, safety, and high-quality food service.
The role involves comprehensive oversight of daily production records and paperwork, maintaining meticulous documentation critical for regulatory compliance and internal standards. The Kitchen Manager will also facilitate the execution of catered events as needed, working collaboratively to deliver exceptional food service experiences beyond routine school meals. An important aspect of the role includes partnering with regional chefs to develop and implement innovative recipes that align with the company’s food concepts and standards.
Training and development of school cafeteria workers are key components of the job. The manager will provide instruction on food production techniques and recipe utilization and ensure that kitchen staff thoroughly understand the functions of kitchen equipment. Meeting the company’s expectations in all areas including food quality, safety, and customer service is a priority. The ability to communicate effectively and build strong working relationships with team members is essential for success in this role.
There are two positions available: a permanent-location Kitchen Manager who focuses on a single school cafeteria, and a Floater Kitchen Manager who travels between multiple schools to provide interim management support, cover staff shortages, and uphold consistent food service standards across locations. The Floater Manager role demands adaptability, a strong leadership presence, and hands-on involvement in managing teams, maintaining safety standards, handling inventory, and overseeing production. Certification such as ServSafe management is crucial, assuring the highest standards of food safety are maintained at all times.
This academic school year position typically runs from early morning shifts starting at around 5:30 a.m. or 6:00 a.m. and ending mid-afternoon between 2:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. The Nutrition Group is committed to diversity and inclusion and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer that considers applicants without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, age, or veteran status.
