Job Description
The Nutrition Group is a full-service food and facilities management company that has been dedicated to providing exceptional support services since its founding in 1975. Operating in multiple states including Florida, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, South Carolina, and Virginia, the company has established itself as a leader in areas such as K-12 meal services, commissary operations, custodial and maintenance management, business and industry services, and consulting. The Nutrition Group prides itself on its welcoming, people-oriented company culture, which emphasizes long-term relationships with clients, employees, customers, and vendors alike. This approach has earned them a strong reputation and loyal partnerships across the regions they serve.
Currently, The Nutrition Group is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Kitchen Manager within its school food service division. This critical role involves overseeing food production and staff training at a large K-12 school cafeteria operation. The Kitchen Manager plays a vital part in ensuring the delivery of quality meal services compliant with federal programs such as the National School Breakfast Program and National School Lunch Program, both essential to supporting student nutrition and health.
The Kitchen Manager position is unique in that it offers daylight hours Monday through Friday with no evening shifts, no weekend work, and holidays off, providing an excellent work-life balance. Additional benefits include paid time off and a 401(k) retirement plan. The work schedule during the academic school year typically runs from either 5:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. or 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. This role is available as a permanent position at a single location or as a floater position, where the manager travels between various school locations. The floater manager covers staff shortages and interim management needs while ensuring consistent, high-quality food service operations across schools.
In this role, the Kitchen Manager is responsible for overseeing large-scale food preparation, ensuring compliance with company food concepts, maintaining daily production records and paperwork, and facilitating catered events as needed. The incumbent works closely with regional chefs to develop and implement recipes, actively contributing to menu innovation and food quality standards. Training and mentoring cafeteria workers on proper use of kitchen equipment, recipe execution, and daily operational standards are also key responsibilities, reinforcing the team’s ability to meet company expectations effectively.
Successful candidates will bring at least one to two years of experience managing staff within a food service environment, along with strong interpersonal and communication skills. Proficiency in reading recipes, conducting basic math conversions, and using Microsoft Office applications is essential. The position also requires a valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain necessary clearances and pass criminal background checks.
The Nutrition Group is committed to fostering diversity and inclusion within its workforce, encouraging qualified applicants regardless of race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, age, or veteran status. As an equal opportunity employer, the company continues to uphold these values in all aspects of recruitment and employment.
Joining The Nutrition Group as a Kitchen Manager means becoming part of a respected organization dedicated to improving the quality of life through food and facilities management. The company’s focus on employee well-being, competitive benefits, and professional development opportunities makes this an attractive position for those passionate about school nutrition and leadership in food service operations.
