Job Description
The Nutrition Group is a well-established full-service food and facilities management company founded in 1975. With decades of experience in the industry, the company has grown its family of support services to include K-12 Meal Services, Commissary, Custodial and Maintenance Management, Business and Industry services, and Consulting. The Nutrition Group currently operates across several states, including Florida, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, South Carolina, and Virginia, making it a significant presence in the food service sector within these regions. Known for its people-oriented approach, the company prides itself on fostering long-term relationships with its clients, customers, employees, and vendors, prioritizing collaboration and quality service.
The Nutrition Group is seeking a dedicated and experienced Kitchen Manager for School Food Service at Strath Haven High School. This role offers a stable schedule with daylight hours, Monday through Friday, from 5:30 am to 1:30 pm. The position specifically excludes evenings, weekends, and holidays, allowing for a balanced work-life schedule. Additional benefits include paid time off (PTO) and 401(k) retirement plans, reflecting the company’s commitment to supporting its employees’ well-being and future financial security.
The Kitchen Manager will play a critical role in overseeing food production and staff training at a large K-12 school cafeteria operation. The manager will be responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient production of meals in compliance with federal programs such as the National School Breakfast Program and National School Lunch Program. This includes utilizing proper kitchen equipment, managing daily production records, maintaining paperwork, and ensuring that all food service activities meet the company’s high standards and food concepts.
An essential part of the role involves hands-on food preparation on a large production scale, requiring familiarity with recipes, cooking techniques, and large kitchen operations. The manager will also collaborate with regional chefs to help develop and implement recipes, enhancing the menu offerings with nutritious and appealing meal options for students. In addition to food production, the Kitchen Manager will facilitate catered events when needed, extending their skills beyond the daily cafeteria operations.
Training and overseeing cafeteria staff is a significant component of the position. This includes coaching school cafeteria workers on food production, recipe utilization, and effective use of kitchen equipment. Emphasis is placed on meeting the company’s standards and food concepts to ensure consistency and quality. The manager must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills to guide and motivate staff effectively.
A successful candidate will typically have at least 1-2 years of staff management experience in a food service environment and proficiency in basic math conversions for recipe measurements. Experience with Microsoft Office programs is also required to handle administrative tasks and reporting efficiently. A valid driver’s license is necessary, along with the ability to obtain clearances and pass criminal background checks, ensuring compliance with school and company policies.
The Nutrition Group is committed to diversity and inclusion and encourages applicants of all backgrounds to apply. Employment considerations are made without discrimination based on race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, age, or veteran status, affirming the company as an equal opportunity employer.
