Job Description

San Chez Bistro is Grand Rapids' premier dining destination, renowned for its unique blend of authentic European, Mediterranean, and Latin American tapas served in a vibrant and artful atmosphere. This restaurant stands out as a hub for exceptional culinary experiences combined with lively entertainment and an inviting social ambiance. It has become a community cornerstone where guests come not only to enjoy outstanding food but to unwind, celebrate, and connect with others. The establishment prioritizes quality, creativity, and a welcoming environment, ensuring that every dining experience is memorable and delightful. As a leader in the Grand Rapids food scene, San Chez Bistro has set high standards in dining excellence and continues to innovate within its genre.

The role offered is for a Kitchen Manager who will be integral to maintaining and elevating the standards of the back-of-house operations. This position reports directly to the Restaurant Manager and ownership team, highlighting the importance of this leadership role within the organizational structure. The Kitchen Manager's primary responsibility is to oversee all kitchen functions, ensuring the highest levels of food quality, efficient production processes, and strong team performance in a dynamic, fast-paced, and creatively driven environment.

The ideal candidate for the Kitchen Manager at San Chez Bistro is a seasoned culinary leader with a passion for multi-cuisine concepts, especially those that encapsulate the European, Mediterranean, and Latin American influences reflected in the bistro's menu. This individual must be adept at balancing the art of creativity with the science of kitchen management, supporting seamless coordination with the front-of-house team to guarantee perfect service delivery. Beyond managing day-to-day kitchen operations, the Kitchen Manager will play a critical role in nurturing a high-performing culinary team through effective hiring, training, scheduling, and performance management. They will also be responsible for managing inventory, vendor relationships, and purchasing decisions to optimize costs while maintaining high standards of ingredient quality and sustainability.

Innovation is a key element of this role, involving collaborative menu development, creation of seasonal specials, and standardization of recipes and portions. A commitment to maintaining strict compliance with health and safety protocols such as HACCP and ServSafe will ensure the kitchen operates at peak safety and sanitation standards. The Kitchen Manager will actively participate in regular audits and training sessions and will collaborate closely with the front-of-house team on service timing, allergen handling, and new menu rollouts to ensure an integrated and smooth guest experience.

Financial oversight of the kitchen operations will include managing food costs, labor budgets, and equipment maintenance to support profitability. The candidate will also be expected to foster a positive, inclusive kitchen culture while staying abreast of industry trends, culinary techniques, and sustainable practices. Participation in event planning for private parties and live music nights is also part of the role, which requires flexibility and adaptability to handle periods of increased demand.

This opportunity at San Chez Bistro offers more than just a position; it promises a career path within a thriving local institution. The establishment values creativity, professionalism, and dedication, providing pathways to executive chef or general management roles. It promises a fulfilling and challenging environment perfect for culinary professionals eager to advance their careers while contributing to a vibrant community dining experience.
