Job Description
Culver's is a renowned fast-casual restaurant chain founded in 1984 by Craig and Lea Culver along with Craig's parents George and Ruth in Sauk City, Wisconsin. Famous for their ButterBurgers® and Fresh Frozen Custard, Culver's has grown significantly while maintaining a commitment to quality food and excellent customer service. The restaurant prides itself not just on its signature menu items but on its dedication to people – customers, team members, and the community. Culver's culture is rooted in genuine hospitality and a friendly, welcoming atmosphere where every guest feels valued and appreciated. As part of the Culver's team, employees are encouraged to embody the spirit of kindness and genuine care that defines the brand.
The role of Shift Leader at Culver's is essential for maintaining the operational excellence that customers expect. This leadership position requires the successful candidate to uphold high ethical standards and provide clear leadership, direction, and opportunities for growth to the True Blue Crew. Shift Leaders are responsible for ensuring that every guest who chooses Culver's leaves happy by overseeing the smooth running of shifts, maintaining high-quality food production, excellent guest service, and a clean restaurant environment. The position requires completion of a paid 8-week training program at a different Culver's location, which culminates in acquiring the ServeSafe certification—this certification and all training expenses are covered by Culver's.
The Shift Leader not only manages restaurant operations during shifts but also enforces adherence to restaurant policies and procedures, ensuring team members are accountable for their actions and behaviors. A key part of the role is to guarantee that food safety practices and employment laws are followed rigorously. Shift Leaders serve as role models, acting as coaches and mentors to promote team member growth and develop a high-performing team. Regular monitoring and coaching in safety protocols and compliance with Culver's hazard communication program are crucial responsibilities.
This position demands effective management of inventory levels and labor costs to optimize restaurant performance. Shift Leaders also carry out opening and closing procedures to help maintain operational standards. Additionally, they uphold uniform, grooming, and jewelry standards to reflect the Culver’s brand image appropriately. The role occasionally entails miscellaneous job duties assigned by management to ensure overall restaurant success.
Physical demands include standing for prolonged periods and moving quickly during shifts, with some bending, reaching, and lifting required. The job requires the ability to lift items ranging from under 10 lbs regularly to occasional heavier lifting. Successful candidates should have at least two years of leadership experience or an equivalent blend of education and experience, along with a proactive, results-driven mindset. Overall, the Shift Leader role is a pivotal position designed for individuals who thrive in fast-paced environments and take pride in fostering teamwork, accountability, customer satisfaction, and operational excellence at Culver's.
