Job Description
This job opening is for the position of Kitchen Manager within a school nutrition program, tasked with overseeing daily food service operations at an assigned school site. The hiring organization is a dedicated educational institution committed to providing healthful and nutritious meals to students, ensuring that their dietary needs are met with high standards of quality and safety. As a critical part of the education ecosystem, this entity plays a significant role in supporting student well-being and academic success through proper nutrition. The Kitchen Manager position is full-time and involves managing a fast-paced kitchen environment with responsibilities ranging from staff supervision to compliance with federal and state food safety regulations.
The Kitchen Manager leads all aspects of cafeteria operations including food preparation, quality control, sanitation, staff training, inventory management, and compliance enforcement. This role requires a leader who is passionate about food service, keenly organized, and capable of managing both people and processes efficiently. The successful candidate will be responsible for training kitchen staff on equipment safety, recipes, and sanitation protocols, while ensuring that meals are prepared and served according to established portion and quality standards. Additionally, this role involves preparing necessary paperwork and schedules, monitoring kitchen inventory, maintaining equipment cleanliness, and reporting repair needs promptly.
This leadership position handles labor management to align staffing levels with budget considerations, enforces company policies, and conducts performance evaluations to ensure high standards throughout the team. The Kitchen Manager is also responsible for maintaining food safety documentation such as temperature logs and cleaning schedules, and follows proper cash handling procedures. Acting as the on-site leader, the Kitchen Manager plays a pivotal role in delivering smooth, safe, and efficient kitchen operations that contribute substantially to the school community.
Working in this role requires a person with strong communication and multitasking skills, a commitment to compliance with safety standards like HACCP and ServSafe, and an ability to adapt to a dynamic kitchen environment. The ideal candidate must be comfortable working around children in a school environment, pass thorough background and fingerprint screenings, and provide reliable transportation. Prior food service experience is required, and experience in school nutrition programs is highly preferred. The position demands physical endurance to stand for entire shifts and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds, highlighting the physical demands inherent to food service leadership roles. This full-time job follows a Monday through Friday schedule, with some possibility of extended weeks and attendance at company meetings or trainings.
This opportunity represents a chance to lead a respected kitchen team while directly impacting the health and daily lives of students. By managing operations effectively, the Kitchen Manager upholds the mission of providing nutritious school meals safely and efficiently. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys a leadership challenge within the food service industry and values making a meaningful difference in their local community. Compliance, organization, food safety, staff development, and customer service excellence are all cornerstones of success in this position. Joining this educational institution means becoming an integral part of a mission-focused environment dedicated to nurturing young minds and bodies through quality nutrition.
