The Kitchen Leader role at Chipotle is a dynamic and rewarding position that offers hands-on experience in preparing great food while supporting the broader mission of cultivating a better world. As a Kitchen Leader, you will be deeply involved in the operational heart of the restaurant, where food quality, safety, and customer satisfaction converge. You will master cooking techniques such as grilling meats and sautéing vegetables, maintaining a clean and organized kitchen, monitoring food inventory, and managing kitchen equipment to ensure smooth daily operations. Beyond the technical skills, the Kitchen Leader acts as a role model and mentor, guiding crew members to grow into future leaders. Collaboration between back-of-house and front-of-house teams is encouraged to foster a strong team dynamic that ultimately enhances the customer experience.

While performing these duties, Kitchen Leaders remain active and engaged on their feet, tackling daily challenges, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, and supporting their teammates. They are responsible for following Chipotle’s policies and procedures meticulously, including food safety protocols such as Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and inventory rotation (FIFO) to reduce waste and maintain quality. Effective communication is key to this role, as it involves coordinating with team members and customers to ensure smooth operations and positive interactions.

  • Experience in a restaurant setting
  • Ability to understand and articulate Chipotle's Food With Integrity philosophy
  • Knowledge of the primary language(s) spoken at the work location

Job Duties

  • Ensuring food quality by cooking and prepping food to order and following kitchen procedures
  • Monitoring food waste and inventory levels and resolving food quality issues
  • Supporting a strong team dynamic between back of house Crew and front of house Crew
  • Developing Crew members to be future Kitchen Leaders
  • Communicating with Crew members and customers effectively in order to ensure great customer service and throughput
  • Ensuring the kitchen is properly cleaned and sanitized
  • Monitoring kitchen equipment and ensuring it is kept in good repair and making sure malfunctioning equipment is repaired as quickly as possible
