Job Description
The hiring organization is a community-focused service provider dedicated to delivering nutritious meal services to diverse populations through congregate meal programs. This establishment prioritizes food safety, customer satisfaction, and efficient kitchen operations to support the well-being of its service participants. Operating within a structured environment, the organization emphasizes compliance with public health standards and strives to create a welcoming atmosphere for both staff and participants. The role offered is a Temporary Kitchen Lead, an 'At Will' position with FLSA non-exempt status, typically involving part-time hours less than 29 per week or 129 per month. This position does not provide eligibility for County benefits beyond those stipulated by policy and is subject to termination without notice or pre-termination hearing.
The Kitchen Lead is a key operational role responsible for supervising Kitchen Helpers and volunteers in executing daily meal preparation duties. This position requires overseeing food safety, cooking, presentation, and kitchen cleanliness in compliance with health department standards. The Kitchen Lead serves as the point person for the facility during congregate meal service, coordinating food orders alongside center staff and ensuring supplies and equipment needs are met timely. The role is hands-on, requiring direct engagement with kitchen workflows, training, and quality assurance. Responsibilities also include maintaining accurate records such as daily, weekly, and monthly data forms related to kitchen functions. This position demands physical stamina due to lifting up to 50 pounds and extended periods of standing, along with adaptability to kitchen conditions that may be warm because of cooking activities.
Candidates must hold relevant experience in the food service industry, possess or obtain appropriate Food Handlers and ServSafe certifications, and comply with mandatory background checks involving fingerprinting and enrollment in a continuous Record of Arrest and Prosecution Back program. The ideal applicant will demonstrate strong leadership in training and supervising kitchen volunteers and helpers, uphold rigorous food safety protocols, and deliver excellent customer service to meal participants. This role is vital in upholding the safe and efficient operation of congregate meal services, positively impacting community health and nutrition.
