The Kitchen Helper role at On Lok PACE is an essential position within the Nutrition Services team, reporting directly to the Lead Cook or Nutrition Services Manager. This part-time position involves coordinating meal services at the Day Health Center, playing a key role in preparing and serving nutritious meals tailored to meet the dietary preferences and needs of the elderly participants. Responsibilities include assisting cooks with meal preparation, portioning food items, serving meals, and packaging food for home delivery. The role requires strict adherence to safety, infection control, and sanitation protocols to maintain a safe and hygienic environment.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience working with elderly or frail populations, possess an understanding of seniors' nutritional requirements, and demonstrate reliability, flexibility, and teamwork skills. Physical stamina and the ability to perform tasks such as lifting and standing for extended periods are also crucial. Bilingual English and Spanish skills are preferred to better engage with the diverse participant community. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Minimum one year experience working with elderly or frail population required
  • Ability to communicate effectively with elderly participants and team members
  • Physical ability to lift/move up to 75 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to stand and perform repetitive motions for extended periods
  • Willingness to follow all safety and infection control protocols
  • Flexibility to perform duties as assigned

Job Qualifications

  • Interest and/or experience working with the elderly
  • Understanding of nutritional needs and preferences of seniors
  • Minimum one year related experience preferred
  • One-year experience working with the elderly or frail population required
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Dependable, alert, flexible and creative
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
  • Physical ability to perform job tasks including stooping, standing, walking, lifting up to 75 pounds occasionally

Job Duties

  • Assist cooks to prepare center meals and other foods as necessary
  • Portion individual items as necessary and ready special requests prior to service
  • Serve food to participants in the dining room and dish area
  • Package and ship meals and supplements for home delivery
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures
  • Demonstrate safe practices using proper body mechanics and adhering to universal precautions
  • Follow infection control and sanitation policies including food handling, storage, and cleaning
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
