Job Description

ASD - A Home for Life (ASD) is a dedicated nonprofit organization committed to providing affordable housing and supportive services for individuals living with HIV/AIDS and other medically vulnerable populations in Dallas, Texas. At ASD, the mission is centered around the belief that everyone deserves a safe home, nutritious meals, and compassionate support. This organization fosters a community-focused environment where staff members work daily to help residents achieve healthier, more stable lives with dignity and respect. ASD's services go beyond basic housing by integrating health and wellness support, ensuring that residents receive the comprehensive care they need to thrive despite their medical challenges.

ASD is currently seeking a compassionate and skilled Kitchen Assistant/Cook to join their team. This role offers both full-time and part-time opportunities, scheduled Monday through Friday, with competitive compensation at $17.50 per hour. The position is ideal for someone who is passionate about food preparation and wants to contribute meaningfully to a population in need. The Cook will be responsible for preparing and serving nutritious, well-balanced breakfasts and lunches for residents who may be medically unable to cook for themselves or who require additional support with their dietary needs. In addition to meal preparation, the Cook will collaborate closely with case management to tailor meals according to the specific dietary and nutritional requirements of each resident.

Beyond cooking duties, the role includes maintaining a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment that complies with all Texas food service sanitation regulations. The Kitchen Assistant/Cook will assist in planning weekly menus, managing food and supply inventories, and ensuring that all kitchen protocols are upheld, including the use of proper uniforms and safety gear such as chef's coats, aprons, hair restraints, and slip-resistant shoes.

Working at ASD means joining a mission-driven team where your contributions directly impact the well-being of a vulnerable community. With a stable weekday schedule, opportunities for professional development and training, and an inclusive workplace culture that values diversity, employees at ASD enjoy a supportive work environment. The organization is an Equal Opportunity Employer that fosters equity and inclusivity, ensuring all individuals are respected regardless of race, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability status, or veteran status. This opportunity is perfect for someone dedicated to service, eager to develop their culinary skills in a meaningful setting, and ready to help nourish both body and spirit for those in need.
