The Kitchen Assistant - At Large position in the Highlands Ranch Area is a vital role within DCSD's Nutrition Services. The role is essential in supporting the daily preparation and service of school lunch and breakfast programs across multiple school locations within the district. Individuals in this role assist with food preparation, meal service, inventory management, and maintaining sanitation and safety standards according to the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) protocols and health department regulations. Key responsibilities include washing, cutting, peeling, and cooking food items, serving meals, operating point-of-sale systems, and assisting with training fellow kitchen staff.
This position demands physical stamina due to the frequent standing, lifting up to 40 pounds, bending, and repetitive motions. Flexibility and adaptability are critical since the role requires travel between schools and cooperation with various staff and community members. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent customer service skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to food safety. ServSafe certification is required within six months of hire, and a high school diploma or equivalent is the basic education requirement. Job Duties
- Provide assistance in daily preparation of school lunch and breakfast programs
- Work at multiple locations based on kitchen needs under Area Manager supervision
- Develop and promote good community relations among staff, students, and parents
- Receive deliveries and store food and supplies as directed
- Inventory food, including fresh, frozen, and dry goods
- Participate in and lead training and professional development classes
- Ensure compliance with HACCP and health department sanitation standards
- Temper and record cooking and serving temperatures
- Serve meals and operate the Point of Sale system
- Maintain daily meal counts and production records
- Assist in meal preparation including washing, peeling, chopping, and cooking
- Setup and clean serving areas including dishwashing and sanitation
- Manage kitchen operations in the absence of the Kitchen Manager including opening, closing, cooking, and serving
- Adapt to various assignments and conditions
- Travel to multiple schools within a geographic area
- Follow all safety and equipment protocols
