The Cook Assistant at the YMCA of Greater Louisville plays a crucial role in supporting the organization’s mission by ensuring that nutritious meals and snacks are prepared and served to children participating in the YMCA’s youth programs. This position is vital for maintaining the health and well-being of youth by providing consistent, wholesome food options in a safe and clean environment. Working primarily Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 12:30 PM, with some schedule flexibility depending on program needs and special events, the Cook Assistant prepares daily meals and snacks in accordance with health regulations and organizational standards.

This role also demands the maintenance of food service areas to comply with Health Department and Department of Education standards, as well as securing potentially hazardous items like knives and cleaning chemicals.

The Cook Assistant must be adaptable, with the ability to efficiently handle multi-tasking and changes in priorities, while maintaining high quality and accuracy in meal preparation. The ability to communicate clearly, work both independently and as part of a team, and support departmental special events is essential. Candidates for this position should be self-motivated, possess a food service background, and hold or obtain Board of Health Food Service Certification.
