The establishment upholds strong values of dignity, respect, and compassion, ensuring that all clients are treated with care and confidentiality.
The Salvation Army is currently seeking a full-time Kitchen Assistant to support its kitchen and shelter services. This position reports directly to the Kitchen and Building Supervisor and offers an hourly wage of $24.00. The Kitchen Assistant plays a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient kitchen environment, contributing significantly to the organization's mission of serving individuals in need.
The Kitchen Assistant’s responsibilities are multifaceted, including hands-on food preparation, ensuring adherence to strict sanitation and safety protocols, managing inventory, and supporting volunteer coordination. The position requires maintaining kitchen equipment and sanitation standards to meet health and safety regulations. Additionally, the role involves receiving and organizing food deliveries, assisting with inventory management, and facilitating the internal distribution of food and supplies.
Beyond kitchen tasks, the Kitchen Assistant is integral in volunteer support, helping to train and supervise volunteers and residents involved in meal preparation and service. This includes fostering a collaborative workspace that promotes hygiene and efficiency. The position demands strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with volunteers, staff, and guests, ensuring a respectful and professional environment at all times.
Administrative duties also form part of the role, such as maintaining accurate records related to donations, logging in-kind contributions, issuing tax receipts, and tracking program resources and contacts. The ability to handle donations with integrity and in compliance with organizational procedures is essential. The Kitchen Assistant is expected to uphold the values of The Salvation Army by acting with honesty, maintaining confidentiality, and demonstrating respect for the diverse population served.
Additional responsibilities may include assisting with special events, providing general maintenance support for vehicles and kitchen equipment, and supporting other operational needs as directed by supervisors. This position offers a valuable opportunity to contribute directly to community well-being while gaining experience in food service management within a social service context.
Overall, the Kitchen Assistant role at The Salvation Army is ideal for individuals passionate about service, possess strong organizational skills, and are committed to maintaining high standards of food safety and customer service in a dynamic, mission-driven environment.
