We are currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced Kitchen Manager to join The Fresh Market team. The Kitchen Manager will play a pivotal role in leading and strengthening the kitchen team, delivering not only delicious food but also a world-class guest experience. This role requires a hands-on approach to managing all kitchen operations, including overseeing in-house smoked meats, brick oven pizza, made-to-order sandwiches, salads, tacos, and the Roasting Plant, alongside the traditional deli department. As the leader and ambassador of the kitchen concept, you will be responsible for creating an atmosphere of excitement and inclusiveness among team members and guests alike.
The Kitchen Manager will partner closely with Store Management to forecast staffing needs, hire, and train new team members while ensuring that the kitchen maintains high standards for food quality, safety, and service. Responsibilities also include managing weekly scheduling, ordering all necessary ingredients and supplies, maintaining inventory accuracy, and ensuring the sales and profitability of the department. Additionally, this role involves enforcing food production schedules, adhering to cleaning and maintenance protocols, and coaching team members to optimize kitchen operations. The Kitchen Manager is essential in promoting team development, increasing employee retention, and guaranteeing compliance with The Fresh Market's standards and policies, including safety and food handling regulations.
This full-time position offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $23.04 to $28.80, reflecting the importance of the role and the expertise required. The role demands a flexible schedule, including the willingness to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as necessary to meet store and guest needs. Job Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age (except in certain states where 19 is required)
- Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds independently
- Ability to stand or walk for up to 4 hours continuously
- Physical capacity for repetitive hand/arm movements, grasping, bending, and reaching
- Comfortable using kitchen and maintenance equipment such as knives, ladders, stepstools, box cutters, and pallet jacks
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Willingness to wear personal protective equipment including approved hat, hair net, beard guard, and other safety gear
- Commitment to maintaining high standards for food safety and quality
- Ability to communicate effectively with team members and management
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma
- Minimum of 5 years experience as a front or back of house restaurant manager within retail, restaurant, or hospitality industries
- Proven oral and written communication skills
- Passion for cooking delicious, healthy, and safe food
- High standards for food quality and customer satisfaction
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal food and health department requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Culinary Arts, Food Science, Nutrition, or Hotel/Restaurant Management is highly desirable
- Experience in retail, culinary, or grocery environments preferred
- Familiarity with production planning software preferred
Job Duties
- Lead and build the kitchen team to deliver a world-class guest experience
- Forecast and maintain staffing levels in collaboration with Store Management
- Write and manage weekly schedules for kitchen team members
- Order and manage inventory of ingredients, supplies, beer, and wine
- Monitor and improve sales, profitability, margin, and shrink in the kitchen department
- Create and enforce food production schedules adhering to food safety and quality standards
- Ensure cleaning and maintenance schedules are followed and equipment is properly serviced
- Provide onboarding, training, and ongoing coaching to kitchen team members
- Ensure compliance with The Fresh Market’s food safety policies and legal requirements
- Collaborate with management to uphold department safety standards and operational protocols
- Work a flexible schedule including weekends, holidays, and evenings as required
