Job Description

Paz de Cristo is a dedicated nonprofit organization committed to providing essential services to individuals and families facing homelessness and food insecurity. Based in Arizona, Paz de Cristo operates with a mission to serve hot, nutritious meals and foster a supportive environment where guests are treated with dignity and compassion. Known for its compassionate approach and community-focused initiatives, the organization relies on a combination of paid staff and volunteers to support its operations and make a lasting impact on the lives of those in need. The full-time role of Kitchen Manager at Paz de Cristo is central to maintaining the smooth operation of its commercial kitchen and dining room services, ensuring that high-quality meals are prepared and served nightly to over 300 guests. This position is pivotal in coordinating and overseeing kitchen staff and volunteers, controlling food inventory, maintaining compliance with health and safety standards, and collaborating effectively with warehouse teams to ensure proper food storage and distribution. The Kitchen Manager supervises multiple roles including the Lead Cook/Kitchen Assistant, Kitchen/Inventory Associate, and up to 23 volunteers nightly during meal service. This role demands strong leadership, organizational skills, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while demonstrating a compassionate and guest-centered approach. The position requires a culinary background along with valid food safety certifications, including a current Food Handler's Card and ServSafe Certification within 30 days of hire. Additional responsibilities include planning menus, ensuring the cleanliness and sanitation of all kitchen and dining areas, managing temperature logs, and securing premises as needed. The ideal candidate exhibits creativity in menu planning, particularly in utilizing donated food items, and upholds the organization’s policies and standards. The role offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $20.00 to $28.00 and includes comprehensive benefits such as health insurance, dental and vision coverage, paid time off, and retirement savings plans. This full-time, in-person job requires physical stamina including the ability to stand, walk, bend for long periods, and lift up to 50 pounds. Some evening, weekend, and holiday work is required to meet the operational needs of the organization.

The Kitchen Manager role at Paz de Cristo is more than just a job; it is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the community through dedicated service and leadership. The position is ideal for those passionate about culinary arts, social services, and working hands-on with diverse teams and individuals facing challenging circumstances. The manager not only ensures culinary excellence and safety but also fosters an inclusive environment where volunteers are trained and empowered to contribute effectively. With a commitment to food safety, guest dignity, and operational excellence, this position supports Paz de Cristo’s ongoing mission to alleviate hunger and homelessness in a compassionate, respectful manner.
