Job Description

The company is currently seeking a dedicated Chef to lead its school lunch program team. This role is a full-time, Monday through Friday position during daytime hours, designed to provide a healthy work-life balance without nights or weekend shifts. The Chef will play a crucial role in ensuring the highest level of service and food quality, overseeing meal preparation, managing operational standards, and leading catering functions as needed. This position is integral to maintaining compliance with USDA regulations and HACCP standards, ensuring that all meals meet stringent quality and safety requirements.

The Chef will be responsible for managing all aspects of food service operations including ordering, receiving, storing, and controlling inventory of perishable products. Controlling waste and costs to adhere to budgetary goals is a key accountability, alongside establishing and monitoring food and labor cost goals through careful analysis. The Chef will also lead team management efforts by training, motivating, and supervising kitchen staff, fostering a cohesive and effective work environment.

Maintaining a clean, healthy, and safe kitchen environment is vital, with the Chef overseeing adherence to safety practices and the use of personal protective equipment. The role involves following standardized recipes, writing menus, and monitoring both product and menu costs to ensure an excellent dining experience for students. In addition to day-to-day management, the Chef will assist with catering functions and perform related tasks as directed by leadership, ensuring seamless service delivery.

Job Requirements

  • associate degree in culinary arts or at least 3 years of previous experience in a similar position
  • exemplary customer service skills
  • previous purchasing experience and controlling food cost
  • ability to manage, train, and motivate a team
  • ability to perform in a fast paced environment
  • previous catering experience preferred
  • excellent written and oral communication skills
  • successfully pass a criminal background check

Job Duties
