Job Description
Geeks Who Drink is a unique entertainment company that specializes in bringing live pub trivia experiences to venues all across the country. With a commitment to fun, community, and knowledge, they create engaging events that combine the excitement of trivia with the social atmosphere of local bars. One of their standout offerings is the JEOPARDY! Bar League, which offers a competitive and intellectual challenge by merging the prestige and format of the iconic JEOPARDY! game show with the casual, lively feel of a bar trivia night. This fusion provides trivia enthusiasts and knowledge junkies with a one-of-a-kind experience where they can enjoy stimulating competition in a relaxed environment. Geeks Who Drink operates on a part-time employment model for this role, offering a starting pay rate of $20.00 per hour. The company emphasizes creating roles that are not just jobs but opportunities to engage with local communities, learn continuously, and entertain crowds in a dynamic setting.
The role of a host for the JEOPARDY! Bar League is critical in bringing this exciting event to life. Hosts serve as the face of the event each night, commanding the room and engaging with participants to ensure an enjoyable and competitive experience. If you have experience acting, teaching, guiding tours, or any form of live performance, you'll find that your skills align perfectly with the host's responsibilities. Hosting requires more than just enthusiasm; it demands a good command of technology, as the game is run through a web-based app that hosts must be proficient in using. In addition to running the event smoothly, hosts will complete training—both online and/or in-person—to master the use of the hosting tools and basic audiovisual setups. The position requires availability primarily on Tuesday and/or Wednesday evenings, with hosts expected to arrive by 6:30 p.m. The role includes both regular weekly hosting opportunities and substitute hosting positions, which may lead to more frequent gigs as new venues join. Importantly, candidates must be at least 21 years old, own a working laptop (tablets and iPads are not compatible), and plan to remain in their area for at least one year, ensuring reliability and consistency for the venues and participants. As a host, you will not only entertain and educate but get paid to learn new facts and create a fun, memorable night for trivia lovers. Benefits include flexible scheduling, referral bonuses, sick pay based on events worked, and the chance to engage in an intellectually stimulating and entertaining job.
