The role of Host/Hostess is integral to the front-of-house operations and is pivotal in delivering a seamless and memorable guest journey from arrival to departure. As the first point of contact, the Host/Hostess embodies the spirit of hospitality, greeting each guest warmly and ensuring their comfort and satisfaction are prioritized. This position demands a calm and confident presence capable of managing a fast-paced environment while balancing multiple priorities with grace and professionalism. The ideal candidate is not only experienced in a similar upscale dining setting but also proficient in using advanced reservation management tools like SevenRooms, enabling efficient management of reservations, walk-ins, and guest preferences.

Responsibilities extend beyond guest greeting to include managing dining room flow, coordinating seating to optimize service pacing, maintaining clear communication among the service team and management, and assisting with operational tasks such as maintaining cleanliness and order at the host stand. This role requires excellent verbal communication skills, strong organizational abilities, and a detail-oriented mindset to ensure that special occasions and guest notes are accurately handled. The Host/Hostess is also expected to contribute to a positive work environment by supporting daily pre-shift meetings and remaining composed under pressure.

Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or equivalent required
  • prior experience as a host or hostess or restaurant greeter in a refined or high-volume environment preferred
  • must obtain and maintain any required licenses or certifications as applicable
  • cpr and/or first aid certification preferred
  • lifting 50 lbs maximum with frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs
  • it requires walking or standing to a significant degree, as well as reaching, handling, feeling, talking, hearing, and seeing

Job Qualifications

  • working knowledge of restaurant operations and guest flow
  • prior experience with SevenRooms is strongly preferred
  • strong verbal communication and organizational skills
  • ability to read and understand written English, including reservations, guest notes, and event details
  • ability to speak English clearly and professionally with guests and team members
  • ability to remain composed and welcoming in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
  • ability to move efficiently throughout a busy dining room

Job Duties

  • greet guests warmly and professionally upon arrival, confirm reservations, and acknowledge special requests or occasions
  • escort guests to their tables, offer chair assistance, present menus, and ensure guests feel welcomed and informed
  • thank guests upon departure and provide a positive final impression of the restaurant
  • respond to guest questions and concerns with professionalism, empathy, and solution-oriented communication
  • manage reservations, walk-ins, waitlists, and special requests using SevenRooms
  • accurately update guest notes, preferences, and special occasions within SevenRooms
  • answer incoming phone calls promptly and courteously, providing accurate information regarding reservations, hours, menus, and events
  • maintain clear and consistent communication between guests, service staff, and management
  • coordinate seating and table assignments to support service pacing and guest satisfaction
  • communicate table status clearly with servers, captains, and management
  • monitor dining room activity throughout service and adjust seating flow as needed
  • support daily pre-shift meetings by communicating guest notes and operational updates when assigned
  • ensure the host stand and entry area remain clean, organized, and presentable at all times
  • perform assigned opening and closing duties, including stocking supplies, cleaning, and assisting with side work such as folding napkins
  • assist with guest needs as appropriate, including directions within the resort or special accommodations
  • attend required meetings and training
  • perform additional duties as assigned to support overall service excellence
