The Full-Time Lead Janitor position at the Knoxville VAMC represents an important leadership role within Accord’s operations. This role primarily involves overseeing and managing janitorial staff, ensuring all cleaning tasks meet stringent health and safety standards required in a medical environment. The Lead Janitor acts as the liaison between the Accord team and the Contracting Officer Representative (COR) at the VAMC, along with the onsite Accord Supervisor. This ensures that communication channels remain clear, work is coordinated efficiently, and any concerns or issues are promptly addressed. Scheduled mainly for the second shift starting between 2-3 PM from Monday to Friday, this role offers stable, full-time employment with a starting hourly wage of $18.75.

The Lead Janitor is entrusted with multiple responsibilities, starting with firsthand janitorial tasks across various assigned areas including offices, washrooms, and common facilities within the VAMC. The duties involve sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, polishing floors, dusting equipment and furniture, polishing metal fixtures, supplying necessary materials, and providing minor maintenance services to maintain a sanitary and orderly environment. Particular attention is given to sanitizing restrooms and other high-touch surfaces using hospital-grade germicides, ensuring they meet government healthcare regulations. Floor maintenance tasks extend to stripping, waxing, and buffing floors according to schedules.

In addition to hands-on cleaning responsibilities, the Lead Janitor fulfills supervisory functions. This includes conducting routine inspections, providing guidance and support to staff, covering shifts during absences, and assisting the site Supervisor in managing cleaning operations efficiently. This role requires a strong commitment to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to motivate and lead a cleaning team toward shared objectives.

Given the nature of the work environment, candidates must be capable of obtaining clearance to work in a VA medical facility, including passing comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, and possessing a REAL ID.
