Job Description

The Salvation Army is a globally recognized evangelical movement and an integral part of the universal Christian church. Rooted in the teachings of the Bible, the organization is motivated by the love of God and is dedicated to its mission of preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. Beyond spiritual messages, The Salvation Army is also well-known for its substantial humanitarian efforts, serving individuals and communities without discrimination. This makes it not only a faith-based organization but also a significant provider of social services around the world. Established over a century ago, The Salvation Army continues to reach diverse populations with a range of programs including emergency relief, shelter services, rehabilitation programs, and community outreach initiatives. Its commitment to compassion and service has earned it respect and trust in the communities it serves.

This particular role at The Salvation Army is focused on supporting the operational needs of a local center by providing cleaning services and assisting with maintenance duties. With a starting wage of $13.27 per hour and a part-time schedule of 16 hours per week, this position is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work and has a background in janitorial or basic maintenance. The responsibilities include daily cleaning, maintaining equipment, receiving and managing shipments, and providing exterior maintenance such as lawn care and snow removal. A crucial aspect of this job is adhering to health and safety protocols, including handling potentially hazardous or contaminated materials with universal precautions. Additionally, the role requires maintaining confidentiality about the residents and being attentive to the security needs of the center. This is a non-supervisory role designed to support other janitorial and housekeeping staff as needed, promoting a collaborative working environment.

The physical demands of the position involve moderate lifting, bending, reaching, and the ability to stand for extended periods. Employees must be capable of lifting up to 40 pounds and performing tasks that require manual dexterity and good hearing, vision, and speaking capabilities. The environment is residential and may occasionally present situational challenges, but no travel is required. Importantly, all employees are expected to uphold the religious mission of The Salvation Army in their conduct and work. This job offers a meaningful opportunity to contribute directly to a faith-driven organization that has a profound impact on local communities by supporting individuals in crisis. The organization values diversity and encourages applications from veterans, individuals with disabilities, those impacted by justice system involvement, and candidates without college degrees.

Working with The Salvation Army means joining a community of passionate employees who are proud to support programs that make a tangible difference. Employees frequently mention pride in their work, manageable stress levels, supportive management, and flexible work options as highlights of their experience. Additionally, the organization provides traditional benefits such as health and wellness programs, prescription coverage, paid time off, and eleven paid holidays annually. The culture reflects a strong commitment to dignity, respect, and spiritual purpose, making it a rewarding workplace for those aligned with its mission and values.
