The Janitor role at NEMS is a full-time, non-exempt position essential for upholding the cleanliness and sanitation standards across various facilities. The janitor will be entrusted with a variety of cleaning and maintenance responsibilities that contribute directly to the health and safety of the environment. This position demands reliability, attention to detail, and the ability to work with minimal supervision while interacting positively with both members and colleagues. The janitor will take ownership of assigned duties, ensuring all areas including restrooms, kitchen spaces, sidewalks, and windows are thoroughly cleaned and maintained. In addition to routine cleaning, the janitor is responsible for minor maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs and handling cleaning equipment safely. They also monitor supplies and report hazardous conditions or incidents promptly to supervisors.

The role requires familiarity with cleaning methods and equipment, with preference given to those who have 1-2 years of experience in similar positions. Candidates must be physically capable of performing strenuous activities and managing motorized cleaning equipment safely. Certification in janitorial services is preferred but not mandatory. Bilingual skills in Cantonese or Mandarin can be an advantage. Proficiency in English, including reading and writing to understand safety instructions and complete necessary training, is mandatory. Job Duties

  • Responsible for cleaning facilities and grounds area which include duties as but not limited to cleaning and restocking restrooms, kitchen areas, sidewalks, and windows
  • Cleans, sweeps, dusts, mops, washes, vacuums, polishes, and waxes floors
  • Collects and disposes of trash from building and grounds
  • Responsible for ensuring checklist is up to date and recorded for assigned area
  • Unlocks/locks (open/close) all doors at the beginning/end of each shift
  • Responsible for properly handling various chemicals
  • Performs unskilled maintenance work including changing clocks, light bulbs, etc.
  • Cleans company car
  • Moves furniture and equipment
  • Responsible for reporting incidents and hazardous conditions to Supervisor
  • Notifies Supervisor when housekeeping supplies need re-ordering
  • Assist training staff as needed
  • Performs other job duties as required by manager/supervisor
