Job Description

Lakeland Regional Health is a prominent medical center situated in the heart of Central Florida, recognized for its century-long commitment to delivering exceptional healthcare services to the community it serves. As the only Level 2 Trauma center covering Polk, Highlands, and Hardee counties, Lakeland Regional Health holds a critical position in emergency care, operating the second busiest Emergency Department in the United States. This extensive facility, licensed for 910 beds, manages over 200,000 emergency room visits annually, alongside more than 49,000 inpatient admissions, 21,000 surgical cases, approximately 4,000 births, and over 101,000 outpatient visits each year. The health system’s expansive services and high patient volume make it a key healthcare provider in the region.

Lakeland Regional Health is currently expanding its workforce and is actively seeking dedicated professionals for the role of Epic Server Engineer. This position is integral to the Information Systems (IS) Department and involves implementing, managing, and supporting Epic Electronic Health Record (EHR) solutions, focusing on both client and server components. This full-time position offers a competitive salary ranging from $83,803.20 to $104,759.20 annually, with benefits and time off accrual for eligible employees. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, with a call rotation, based at the facility located at 210 South Florida Avenue, Lakeland, FL.

The Epic Server Engineer will play a vital role within a collaborative team responsible for the strategic technical direction, architecture, and ongoing evolution of Lakeland Regional Health’s Epic EHR environment. This includes supporting various Epic modules and applications such as MyChart, Epic-Link, Hyperspace Web, interconnect and FIPS servers, Kuiper, Haiku, and Canto, ensuring seamless integration and functionality to support patients, guests, and employees alike. The role demands expertise in server and application infrastructure implementation, validation, and preparation of systems for operational handover.

Moreover, the engineer will partner with multiple teams to sustain and enhance the system through upgrades, maintenance, and expansion efforts. They will also provide expert-level support for escalated technical issues related to the Epic infrastructure. The role requires familiarity with technologies including VMware, Active Directory, Citrix XenDesktop, and NetScaler, alongside database management and caching practices. A strong emphasis is placed on proactive monitoring, incident resolution, capacity planning, and performance optimization to guarantee the reliability and efficiency of the EHR systems.

Job Requirements

  • Associate degree in information technology, healthcare administration, information management, or related field
  • Minimum three years of IT infrastructure engineering experience including server systems, storage, and software applications
  • Experience administering Windows Servers 2012 and up, Windows 10, Microsoft Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, Microsoft SQL Server
  • Proven skills in VMware ESXi, vCenter, Horizon View, Citrix XenApp or Workspace
  • Experience in backup management, disaster recovery, vulnerability management, and patch management
  • Ability to resolve incidents and manage ticket queues
  • Experience managing electronic health records in a large hospital environment
  • Microsoft MCSE, VMware VCP or Citrix CCEA certification

Job Qualifications

  • Associate degree in information technology, healthcare administration, information management, or related field
  • Minimum three years of experience in IT infrastructure engineering
  • Proven experience with Windows Servers administration and engineering including 2012, 2016, 2019, and Windows 10
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and Microsoft SQL Server administration including high availability clustering
  • Working knowledge of VMware vSphere, ESXi, Horizon View, and NSX
  • Experience with Citrix XenApp and Workspace
  • Proficiency in PowerShell scripting and automation
  • Experience supporting Epic technologies including MyChart and Hyperspace Web preferred
  • Strong troubleshooting and critical thinking skills
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems
  • Microsoft MCSE, VMware VCP or Citrix CCEA certification preferred

Job Duties

  • Implements, manages and maintains the Epic Windows and Linux Server infrastructure including installing and upgrading Epic applications using Kuiper and System Pulse
  • Manage and maintain Epic Virtual Servers, Hyperspace, EPS, Web BLOB, Hyperspace Web, BCA, MyChart, Carelink, Haiku, Rover, Care Everywhere, Home Health, Kuiper, and System Pulse services
  • Support other Epic Windows and Linux based applications and assist third party applications teams with integration
  • Monitor application performance, identify bottlenecks, and collaborate with developers to apply fixes
  • Act as a technical consultant for infrastructure technology evaluation and interface with business and clinical units for new initiatives
  • Support third party software implementation and maintain private and public cloud infrastructure
  • Identify, repair, and resolve Epic system hardware and software failures timely and according to company standards
  • Provide technical specifications and solutions for new and existing implementations
  • Collaborate with other departments to build and troubleshoot physical and virtual systems
  • Develop and maintain systems documentation and technical procedures
