The role of Intermittent Seasonal Shelter Crew is an essential part of the Shawnee County Parks and Recreation system, focusing on custodial services at shelter houses and bathrooms situated throughout the parks. The position may be terminated at management's discretion without cause. Working under the supervision of the Campground and Shelter Supervisor, the Shelter Crew member ensures that shelters and restroom facilities are maintained according to departmental standards. This position supports the overall park experience by providing clean, orderly, and safe environments for park patrons and staff.

Responsibilities primarily include cleaning and custodial tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming floors, sanitizing countertops, tables, restroom fixtures, and furniture, as well as maintaining the appearance of interior areas including walls, windows, and doors. The role also involves emptying trash and disposing of it properly, and performing outdoor duties such as leaf and snow removal using power equipment when necessary. Additionally, the Intermittent Seasonal Shelter Crew monitors supply inventories, communicates needs to supervisors, and reports any facility damage or repair requirements. The role demands flexibility to work various schedules, including evenings and weekends, and requires physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds. This position demands a responsible individual who understands safety protocols, cleaning standards, and communication skills in both oral and written English.

Candidates for this position must be at least 18 years old, possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record according to Shawnee County's specific requirements, and must pass a pre-employment physical and drug screening. The ability to work independently and as part of a team in a public service environment is critical to success. Equipment used includes iPad tablet computers, vacuums, leaf blowers, mops, snow blowers, various hand tools, brooms, spreaders, and county vehicles.
