Job Description

A thriving healthcare system located in the Saginaw, Michigan area is actively seeking a dedicated and skilled Internal Medicine Physician to join their growing team. This health system is a prominent and trusted provider in the region, consisting of more than 560 physicians and operating over 20 fully equipped facilities. Recognized for its excellence and commitment to quality care, the system has earned accolades such as being named the number one Best Employer in HealthCare in Michigan by Forbes for two consecutive years. The organization prides itself on delivering superior healthcare services supported by a diverse and qualified team, including nursing assistants, nurses, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners. Equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and cutting-edge medical equipment, the healthcare system ensures both providers and patients benefit from an environment conducive to effective and advanced treatment options.

The Internal Medicine Physician role is a full-time outpatient position within this dynamic healthcare system, focused on providing direct primary medical care to patients with the highest standards of medical ethics and compassion. This position is ideal for physicians who enjoy working in a nurturing atmosphere that emphasizes patient-centered care and professional growth. The outpatient practice benefits from a robust employed hospitalist program, ensuring seamless collaboration when inpatient care is required. Physicians in this role will have access to a network of subspecialists, including numerous surgical and pediatric specialties, enhancing the comprehensive care they can provide.

One of the significant advantages of this opportunity is the emphasis on work-life balance. The position offers a Monday through Friday schedule with no weekend or holiday duties. Physicians typically work 4.5 days per week, with 36 patient contact hours and 4 administrative hours, and flexibility for a 4-day workweek may be available depending on the schedule of other providers. Clinic hours are generally Monday through Thursday from 8 AM to 4:30 PM with a one-hour lunch break, and Friday from 8 AM to 12 PM. There are no mandatory Saturday or evening shifts, making this role particularly attractive to providers who value their time outside work.

The healthcare system supports physicians by offering shared on-call arrangements that are phone-based, reducing the burden of in-person call duties. Patient appointments are structured to allow adequate time for thorough consultations, with a shift from a 20/40-minute to a 15/30-minute schedule and flexibility for longer visits as necessary. Each physician is supported by a dedicated medical assistant as well as additional clinic staff to facilitate smooth operations. Leadership is present at clinic sites to ensure effective management and care coordination, including lead medical assistants and case managers, with plans to enhance case management support.

Technology plays a vital role in improving efficiency and care coordination at the medical practices. Providers utilize the Epic electronic medical record (EMR) system, supplemented by comprehensive training and ongoing onsite support. Additional tools like DeepScribe assist with efficient note-taking, helping to reduce administrative workload. Communication channels are seamless, ensuring primary care providers are kept up to date about patient admissions and emergency room visits via the EMR.

Physicians in these practices may perform minor procedures based on their preferences, and all clinic locations are equipped to offer virtual appointments, supporting convenient and flexible patient access to care. Many sites within the health system have been recognized as patient-centered medical homes, some holding advanced CPC+ status, reflecting the organization's commitment to high quality and coordinated primary care.

The compensation package is highly competitive, starting with a base salary of $265,000 per year, accompanied by a two-year salary guarantee for physicians. Providers are eligible for productivity and incentive bonuses, including additional compensation if calculated work RVU earnings exceed base pay at the fiscal year-end. Bonuses are also available for meeting core performance targets related to documentation, attendance, and patient access metrics. Additional financial incentives include a possible commencement bonus, student loan repayment opportunities (particularly for those eligible for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program), moving allowance reimbursements, and educational support during residency. Comprehensive benefits cover life, health, dental, and vision insurance for both the physician and family, alongside malpractice insurance premiums provided by the healthcare system. Physicians enjoy generous paid time off, including 37 days of vacation approved in advance, and annual allowances for continuing medical education and professional dues.

Candidates for the Internal Medicine Physician position should be board eligible or board certified in Internal Medicine and able to obtain a Michigan state medical license. The opportunity is open to both new graduates and experienced physicians, with H1B sponsorship available if necessary.
