Job Description
The American Heart Association (AHA) is a pioneering nonprofit organization with a rich history dating back to 1924. Over nearly a century, the AHA has made monumental strides in cardiovascular health, including cutting cardiovascular disease deaths in half. As one of the world's largest voluntary health organizations, the AHA is steadfastly dedicated to overcoming some of today's most pressing health challenges through science, policy, education, and community-driven initiatives. The Association's commitment goes beyond just fighting cardiovascular disease—it strives to ensure a healthier future for everyone, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, or other distinguishing characteristics. The culture at AHA is captured by #TheAHALife, which emphasizes work-life harmonization, core values that foster personal and professional growth, and creating an environment where every individual's impact truly matters. They promote a workplace where employees are seen, heard, and valued.
This internship opportunity within the American Heart Association’s Development Team in Dayton, OH, offers college students a valuable chance to gain hands-on experience while making measurable contributions to impactful health campaigns such as Go Red for Women, Heart Ball, and Heart Walk. This hybrid role requires the intern to be located in or near Dayton, with the office based in Kettering, OH, and offers a competitive pay rate of $23.00 per hour. The internship runs from September 8, 2026, through December 11, 2026, with a time commitment of 20-25 hours weekly. Dedicated to offering a learning-rich environment, the AHA provides access to Heart U, an award-winning corporate university with comprehensive training resources, alongside local and national support.
The intern will be actively involved in diverse phases of event and fundraising campaign management. Responsibilities span from assisting in the development and implementation of fundraising activities and logistics to supporting day-of event execution and campaign wrap-ups, ensuring these life-saving initiatives run smoothly and effectively. The role also involves utilizing event management systems like Luminate and Tableau for data management and reporting, crafting marketing materials including invitations and social media content, and coordinating volunteer efforts. Additionally, the intern will engage in external communications such as donor and vendor outreach, further nurturing community relationships vital to the success of these campaigns. This role not only helps interns acquire practical skills in nonprofit environments but also enriches their academic and professional profiles while making a real difference in public health.
Individuals who take part in the internship program gain practical job skills tailored for nonprofit operations, the ability to explore potential career paths in voluntary health and service organizations, and the personal satisfaction of contributing to critical community health initiatives. The American Heart Association also fosters an inclusive and supportive atmosphere that respects diversity, offering a variety of professional development opportunities including Employee Resource Groups and mentoring programs. Healthcare benefits such as access to Teladoc and Employee Assistance Programs are available, reflecting the Association's investment in the overall well-being of its interns and employees. This internship is an exceptional opportunity for students eager to blend their academic pursuits with impactful community service, all within an organization driven by a mission to promote longer, healthier lives globally.
