The Interim School Nutrition Services Manager role at John Hersey High School is a pivotal leadership position responsible for the implementation and management of the Child Nutrition Programs. This position requires an individual who can effectively apply District 214 policies and procedures while managing the nutrition services in an organized, efficient manner. The Manager plays a critical role in maintaining budgetary constraints while overseeing day-to-day operations of the school’s food service program. This involves supervising staff, ensuring adherence to high standards of food preparation, sanitation, and safety, and managing inventory and financial controls.
As a working manager, the incumbent will not only perform supervisory duties but also actively engage with the team in food preparation, serving meals, managing inventory, and maintaining cleanliness. This hands-on leadership style encourages team spirit and fosters a positive work environment, crucial for operational success. The role calls for a professional with strong management skills who can lead and inspire a team, promote a customer-focused mindset among employees, and ensure compliance with all health regulations and food safety standards.
This supervisory position is essential in coordinating and enhancing the school’s nutrition services, including breakfast, lunch, a la carte offerings, catering, and vending programs. In addition to managing daily operations, the Manager also actively markets the food service program to students, parents, staff, and the larger community to increase participation and satisfaction.
Reporting to the District 214 Food Service Director, the Interim School Nutrition Services Manager will collaborate with other school nutrition managers through monthly meetings and professional development opportunities to maintain best practices and continuous improvement. The position also involves coordinating food services during summer school and school events, including some evenings and weekends.
This role demands proficiency with computer applications like Microsoft Office and a valid Department of Public Health Food Service Sanitation License. Ideal candidates will have prior management experience in a large-scale commercial or institutional food service setting and a degree in dietetics, hospitality, or culinary management is preferred but not mandatory. Excellent communication skills are essential as the Manager will regularly interact with diverse groups including students, parents, staff, and administration.
The contract length for this position is to be determined with an effective start date of July 28, 2026. Applicants must be prepared to complete a digital interview process as part of their application. John Hersey High School and District 214 are committed to equal opportunity employment and value diversity at all levels, ensuring all applicants receive fair consideration regardless of race, religion, color, national origin, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
