Job Description
Luke's Local is an independently-owned grocery business dedicated to providing high-quality food sourced from local family farms, butchers, ranchers, and food makers. With a passion for great food made with integrity, Luke's Local serves as a unique marketplace that aims to inspire grocery shopping experiences for Bay Area communities. The company operates four vibrant brick-and-mortar markets located strategically across San Francisco: one on Cole and Parnassus in Cole Valley, another in Cow Hollow on Union Street, a third on Green Street in North Beach, and a fourth in the Inner Sunset on 9th Street. This local grocery chain is committed not only to delivering fresh and ethically sourced food but also to fostering an environment of equity, inclusion, and nourishment for both its customers and team members.
Luke's Local thrives on creating a spirit of discovery, creativity, and culinary joy, making it accessible for everyone to find and enjoy truly special products. The stores are community hubs, bringing together shoppers and food artisans with an emphasis on education and exceptional customer service. Employees at Luke's Local are part of a collaborative team where each team member contributes to a dynamic and engaging retail environment.
The role of Floor Supervisor at Luke's Local is fundamental to maintaining smooth and efficient operations on the store floor. This position supports the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager by overseeing daily activities that ensure optimal customer experience and operational success. The Floor Supervisor's responsibilities are diverse and hands-on, including stocking produce and grocery shelves, assisting with barista and deli operations, cheese production, cashier duties, and leading the team by example. This role requires a proactive, positive attitude and a willingness to learn and collaborate across departments. Flexibility is essential, as working weekends and holidays, particularly regular weekend shifts, is mandatory.
The Floor Supervisor plays a leadership role in managing store staff, ensuring clear communication and evenly distributed work assignments while maintaining a positive and equitable work environment. The supervisor is also responsible for training employees in coordination with shift leaders and ensuring customer service standards exceed expectations. Additionally, the role involves overseeing accurate waste tracking and participating in store inventory counts. Floor Supervisors act as a bridge between floor teams and store leadership, communicating equipment needs, supply orders, and maintenance issues to maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized store environment that complies with health code regulations.
Physical demands of the job include lifting up to 50 pounds, standing for extended periods, and engaging in repetitive motions such as stocking and food preparation. The work environment consists of both office and retail sales floor settings, sometimes involving refrigerated areas and working from ladders. Candidates must have at least one year of supervisory experience, preferably in retail or grocery, along with experience in food preparation, service, and safety.
Luke's Local is committed to supporting employee well-being through a comprehensive benefits package and fosters professional growth through mentorship and ongoing development programs. The company requires COVID-19 vaccination for all new hires, aligning with health regulations and community safety. This role offers an hourly wage range of $26 to $28, classified as non-exempt, making it an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about food, community, and leadership in a local retail setting.
