Job Description
Liberty Mutual Investments is a distinguished division of Liberty Mutual Insurance Group, responsible for managing the company’s extensive portfolio of global financial assets. The firm oversees more than $100 billion in assets under management (AUM), blending public and private investment domains to create capital and generate consistent income. With over 300 professionals specializing in investment, finance, and operations, Liberty Mutual Investments maintains a strong presence headquartered in Boston, MA, and benefits from the solid reputation and financial backing of a Fortune 100 company. The team operates with the agility and innovation of a boutique investment firm, providing an ideal environment for investment strategies that demand both expertise and creativity.
Liberty Mutual Investments Technology (LMI Tech) is currently seeking to expand its innovative technology arm by recruiting a Solutions Engineer to play a pivotal role in developing and implementing the company’s Generative AI strategy. This role is a greenfield initiative, providing the unique opportunity to embed cutting-edge Generative AI technologies throughout the investments organization. The successful candidate will serve as the technical quarterback, responsible for tracking the rapidly evolving landscape of Generative AI, translating emerging capabilities into impactful use cases for investment decisions, and leading an engineering team from initial concept through to production deployment.
This Solutions Engineer role requires a hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation that the candidate will be onsite in Boston or New York City three days per week. This position offers a dynamic blend of solution architecture design, hands-on development, and close collaboration with stakeholders across product management, compliance, privacy, and executive leadership.
Key responsibilities include designing scalable, secure, and effective Generative AI driven solutions, rapid prototyping of proof-of-concept projects leveraging large language models (LLMs) and AI APIs, and consistently scanning the AI ecosystem for new developments and integration opportunities. The role involves setting engineering standards for code quality, cost-efficient usage of AI models, and security practices while fostering a collaborative culture that encourages innovation and mentorship.
Ideal applicants will have demonstrated success in architecting end-to-end solutions and leading agile engineering teams, advanced Python programming skills with experience integrating LLM APIs (preferably OpenAI), a deep understanding of AWS cloud services including Lambda, ECS, Fargate, and S3, and practical knowledge of MLOps principles. The ability to clearly convey complex AI-related concepts to non-technical stakeholders and influence key decisions with professionalism is essential. Candidates with knowledge of React, LangChain orchestration, or investment domain experience will find these skills advantageous.
Joining Liberty Mutual Investments means contributing to an organization with a mission to innovate responsibly within a highly regulated investment environment, creating tangible portfolio value through pioneering AI technologies. The role offers a greenfield canvas backed by executive sponsorship and significant research and development investments, ensuring ample growth and visibility for those who thrive on technical leadership and hands-on engineering alike.
Liberty Mutual is dedicated to fostering an inclusive and supportive workplace that values diverse perspectives and encourages career development. Employees benefit from comprehensive benefits, workplace flexibility, various professional growth programs, and a commitment to maintaining work-life balance. If you are passionate about bridging advanced Generative AI technologies with real-world investment applications and want to lead an exceptional team, Liberty Mutual Investments is the place to make an impact.
