Job Description
The Salvation Army is a global charitable organization and part of the universal Christian church, dedicated to preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ and meeting human needs without discrimination. Founded over 150 years ago, The Salvation Army has grown into an international movement that combines faith-based evangelism with practical assistance to communities worldwide. The organization is widely recognized for its social service programs addressing homelessness, poverty, addiction recovery, disaster relief, and much more. The Salvation Army mobilizes resources and volunteers to offer compassionate support to those in crisis, embodying a mission motivated by the love of God, guided explicitly by the teachings of the Bible.
The Salvation Army Women and Children's Center is currently hiring for a receptionist position providing both business and social service support within the center. This role serves as the first point of contact, responding promptly and courteously to telephone calls and visitors, supporting residents and staff alike. Tasks include managing front desk operations—such as answering calls accurately, maintaining confidentiality, monitoring security systems, overseeing sign-in and sign-out procedures for residents, and ensuring the smooth functioning of daily administrative activities. The position demands a high level of organization, attention to security protocols, and the ability to handle emergencies and incidents professionally.
Working as a receptionist at The Salvation Army Women and Children's Center provides an opportunity to directly impact the lives of vulnerable populations, especially women and children in crisis. Responsibilities extend beyond traditional receptionist functions to include supervising resident intake, facilitating orientation tours, and supporting shelter assessment and crisis intervention in line with Center policies. The role requires both interpersonal skills and the diligence to maintain accurate records and comply with confidentiality standards.
This position offers an hourly salary starting at $14.57 and is available as both full-time and part-time, with potential additional hours including evenings and weekends to ensure adequate facility coverage. Although this role includes no supervisory responsibilities, it requires excellent communication skills, comfort in a social service environment, and the ability to juggle multiple tasks efficiently while maintaining a welcoming atmosphere for clients and visitors.
Joining the staff at The Salvation Army means becoming part of a faith-centered community committed to doing the most good for people in need. Employees enjoy a supportive work culture, flexible scheduling options, and a range of benefits such as health, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, and various wellness programs. The organization encourages applications from diverse candidates, including veterans, individuals returning to work, people with disabilities, and others without a college degree, emphasizing inclusivity and equal opportunity.
Overall, this receptionist role at The Salvation Army Women and Children's Center is an excellent pathway for someone who seeks meaningful, impactful work in a reputable faith-based social service environment. The position fosters personal growth through service, while also providing job stability and a supportive community dedicated to making real differences every day.
